Giants, John Harbaugh not concerned about WR Malik Nabers' draft feedback

Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers traded his helmet for a draft analyst cap and shared a less than flattering assessment of the team’s investment in Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese with the No. 5 pick in the 2026 draft.
Among other thoughts shared by Nabers, he said he would have preferred Ohio State teammate Caleb Downs, a safety he “would rather play with than against.” Nabers was at LSU when Downs played for Alabama as a freshman in 2023. Downs was the No. 11 pick to the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys.
“I love (Reese) the player but just like (podcast co-host Micah Parsons) said, where does he play? You want to be on the outside and rush but we just drafted someone last year to that same position,” Nabers said.
Head coach John Harbaugh said he reached out to Nabers to explain how Reese could be used in combination with the fully loaded pass-rush group already on hand in New York, including 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter and edge Brian Burns.
“One thing that you’ll kind of probably see as we go here, we don’t get too worried about stuff,” Harbaugh said. “As long as the person’s heart is in the right place, as long as the person really cares … and you really want what’s best for everybody and he’s got a good heart and it’s coming from a good place, say what you think. Put it out there.
“We talk all the time about confronting everything that has to do with our football team. And so Malik wants to know how we’re going to use our first-round pick. I want to show him. I want to explain it to him. The fact that he says it publicly, who cares? I know fans are probably thinking the same thing.”
New York passed on Downs again with the 10th pick, selecting Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.
Harbaugh said Nabers was at team headquarters on Friday, before the second day of the draft began, and they discussed how Reese would be used. According to the first-year Giants’ coach, Nabers came out of the conversation “fired up” about Reese.
“We had a great conversation with that,” Harbaugh said. “Like came in the next morning, sat up there and we were talking about it. He made himself clear. It’s like you even said, if you go back and you watch it, I appreciate kind of where he’s coming from. I mean, you’re in a podcast, you’re talking ball and he’s just like, well, how do they got to use the guy? How’s he going to play? … It’s like he said, ‘I was curious about how you’re going to use him.'”
Nabers said the public reaction was more of an overreaction.
“First off, we have to stop overreacting,” Nabers said in a social media post. “I would never intentionally take away from the biggest moment/night of Arvell’s life. Very excited to see him play on the team and happy that we have another dawg on the squad!!”

Yankees place DH Giancarlo Stanton (calf) on IL

Mandatory Credit: David Butler II-Imagn Images The New York Yankees placed designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right calf strain.
The move is retroactive to Saturday. The Yankees recalled infielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place on the active roster.
Stanton last played Friday at the Houston Astros and left after the sixth inning when he experienced stiffness in the calf while running the bases. The Yankees have kept him on the bench since then while waiting to see how his calf responded.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the team’s 4-2 win at the Texas Rangers on Monday that an MRI revealed nothing more than a strain that didn’t “look too serious.”
The oft-injured Stanton, 36, was limited to 77 games for the Yankees last year due to injuries to both his elbows. The former National League MVP (2017, Miami Marlins) was batting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBIs through 24 games this season.
The Yankees had previously called up outfielder Jasson Dominguez from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and sent right-hander Luis Gil to Triple-A after he started Sunday’s loss to the Astros.
The 23-year-old Dominguez, who played in 123 games last season, began 2026 at Triple-A and batted .326 with three homers, 15 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 24 games.
Schuemann, 28, had a fine spring for the Yankees after they acquired him from the Athletics in February. In 234 games across two seasons with the A’s (2024-25), Schuemann has hit .212 with nine homers, 18 doubles, 47 RBIs and 21 steals.
In 2025 alone, Schuemann made starts at second base, third base, shortstop, left field and center field.

Brewers' Jackson Chourio, Andrew Vaughn on track to return next week

Mandatory Credit: Michael McLoone-Imagn Images Brewers left fielder Jackson Chourio and first baseman Andrew Vaughn are both set to begin rehab assignments with Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday ahead of projected May 4 returns to the major league level, the team announced Tuesday.
Both Chourio and Vaughn have been sidelined since at least Opening Day with broken bones in their left hands.
Chourio was placed on the injured list the day of the first game of the season due to a fractured bone at the base of his middle finger which occurred on a hit-by-pitch during a World Baseball Classic warmup game. He’s hit .272 with 42 homers, 64 doubles and 157 RBIs the last two seasons for the Brewers.
Vaughn sustained a broken hamate bone in Milwaukee’s Opening Day win over the Chicago White Sox. Acquired at the trade deadline last season from Chicago, Vaughn hit .308 with nine homers and 46 RBIs in 64 games with Milwaukee in 2025.
The Brewers, who have won the National League Central each of the last three years, are in last place of the competitive division at 14-13 just over a month into the regular season.

Vancouver police denied motorcade request for FIFA's Gianni Infantino

Vancouver’s police department denied a request for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to utilize a motorcade escort for his trip to the city this week for the annual FIFA Congress.
Per a report from Global News, the request was for a full motorcade escort, which would have allowed Infantino to travel through traffic lights and without interruption. Vancouver is set to host seven World Cup matches this summer including a Round of 32 and Round of 16 match.
“Any transportation arrangements that are made will be appropriate, measured, and consistent with how Vancouver safely hosts major international events,” Vancouver mayor Ken Simms’ office said in a statement.
FIFA released a statement to multiple media outlets saying that Infantino was not involved in the decision to request the motorcade.
“President was not aware of, or involved in, any requests with authorities in relation to his transportation and security matters for the 76th FIFA Congress,” FIFA’s statement said. “In line with previous arrangements for such events, FWC26 Canada, as local organisers, liaised with authorities requesting support in relation to all delegates, guests, and stakeholders.
“FIFA does not comment on transportation and security protocols involving the FIFA President and would like to thank law enforcement in Vancouver for their ongoing support this week.”
