The Miami Marlins are crossing Pennsylvania with some momentum as they open a three-game road set against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

Miami is coming off a series victory in Pittsburgh, highlighted by a 4-2 win over ace right-hander Paul Skenes and the Pirates on Sunday. The Marlins rode a strong start from Max Meyer (one run in six innings) and second-inning homers from Heriberto Hernandez and Joe Mack to their seventh win in eight games.

“A couple All-Stars potentially going at it today,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said of Meyer, who improved to 7-0, facing the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner. “You go into it facing someone that’s as tough as Paul Skenes is, (knowing) that runs are going to be at a premium, and it was nice for us to get a couple early. … It’s showing that (Meyer) can go up against anyone, and in a game where it’s probably going to be low scoring, (that he’s going) to be able to go match zeros against a premium arm.”

Miami will be facing another premium arm Monday in Zack Wheeler (5-1, 2.22 ERA), who has allowed more than three runs in a start only once this season. He held the host Toronto Blue Jays to one run over six innings Tuesday in an eventual 3-2 defeat.

“It wasn’t the best, wasn’t the sharpest,” Wheeler said. “Velocity was down just a tick. You take those games and throw them out right away and move on.”

Wheeler is 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA against the Marlins in 27 starts in his career. He has faced them once this season, holding Miami to one run and three hits over six innings in a 6-5 win on May 1.

The veteran right-hander will be opposed by Ryan Gusto (0-1, 6.00), who will be making his fifth appearance and third start of the season. The second-year righty will be facing the Phillies for the first time in his career.

In his last start, Gusto gave the Marlins four scoreless innings in an 8-0 home victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“I’m just trying to do my job,” Gusto said. “Obviously, I want to be in the mix as much as possible, but I have to earn that spot, and so it’s not up for me to decide. I just have to do my job every chance that I get, and hope that things work out.”

The Phillies enter this matchup on the heels of a series defeat in Milwaukee, where the Brewers shut out Philadelphia twice in the three-game set. In Sunday’s 4-0 setback, Cristopher Sanchez suffered his first loss since April 18 while the Phillies’ bats managed only four singles on the day.

“Everything was off today, especially my energy,” Sanchez said. “It wasn’t like it usually is. Not to use that as an excuse. Just got to go out there on days like this and try to battle.”

Monday’s matchup is the fifth of 13 meetings between the teams this season. The Phillies won three of four in Miami in early May.

Yasin Ayari recorded a brace, Alexander Isak had one goal and two assists, and Viktor Gyokeres recorded a goal and an assist to help Sweden cruise to a 5-1 victory over Tunisia on Sunday night in World Cup Group F play at Guadalupe, Mexico.

Mattias Svanberg also scored as Sweden took advantage of some sloppy play by Tunisia to win the opening match for both squads.

Omar Rekik scored for Tunisia, who took just two shots from inside the box.

Sweden is the lone unbeaten team in Group F. Japan and Netherlands played to a 2-2 tie earlier Sunday.

Sweden scored twice in the first 30 minutes to take control of the match.

The first strike, coming in the seventh minute, was set up by Victor Lindelof’s long pass upfield. Tunisia goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh came way out of his area to try to eliminate the opportunity but was unsuccessful and Gyokeres took a left-footed shot that was cleared away by Tunisia’s Montassar Talbi.

The ball caromed beyond the box to Ayari, who sent a right-footed rocket toward the net with only defender Mohamed Amine in the path. Ayari’s shot sailed over the head of Amine and into the net.

In the 30th minute, a counterattack saw Isak receive the ball on the left flank. He maneuvered around Talbi and sent a hard right-footed ground shot that hit off the arm of a diving Chamakh en route to the back of the net and a 2-0 lead.

Tunisia got on the board in the 43rd minute when Hannibal Mejbri delivered a stellar cross that Rekik was able to flick his head on and sent it into the net.

Sweden regained a two-goal lead in the 59th minute due to a mistake in the Tunisia end.

Chamakh lackadaisically sent an underhanded rolling pass toward Ellyes Skhiri that Isak. He tapped it over to Gyokeres, who sent a right-footed shot into the net to make it 3-1.

Svanberg scored off a free kick in the 84th minute. He was initially ruled to be offside but a review displayed that Isak had tipped the ball with his foot before it got to Svanberg — eliminating any offside — and the goal was restored. That tip gave Isak his second assist of the night.

Another Tunisia giveaway gave Ayari a chance in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage play and he drilled a right-footer into the top left corner.

The Swedes outshot Tunisia 13-6, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on target.

Sweden’s Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Chamakh each registered one save.

Sweden will next face Netherlands on Saturday in Houston. Later than night, Tunisia will meet Japan in Guadalupe, Mexico.

LYON sweeps past Liquid for LCS Spring championship

League of Legends at 2025 Esports World CupLeague of Legends at 2025 Esports World Cup

LYON maintained a dominant form to sweep Team Liquid 3-0 on Sunday and take home the championship of the LCS Spring playoffs in Los Angeles.

Just one map exceeded 40 minutes of play as LYON coasted to a grand final victory that locked up qualification to the Mid-Season Invitational in Daejeon, South Korea, and the Esports World Cup in Paris. The Mid-Season Invitational begins later this month and carries into July while the EWC begins three days after the MSI ends.

The Mexican esports organization prevailed in 42 and 37 minutes before making short work of Liquid to wrap up the victory in 35 minutes.

It was a disappointing result for the Liquid side, which a day earlier had downed Cloud9 in a sweep of their own in the lower bracket final to qualify for Sunday’s championship.

Yet it continued a run of control from LYON, which likewise swept Cloud9 to qualify for the championship match after defeating Liquid 3-2 in the upper bracket semifinals in May.

The rematch was decidedly one-sided, as Kan “Saint” Seong-in of South Korea racked up 17 kills and 23 assists, while compatriot Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol posted a kill-death-assist ratio of 16-2-25. Australia’s Jonah “Isles” Rosario contributed 41 assists while Niship “Dhokla” Doshi added 28 assists.

No Liquid competitors could manage more kills than deaths. Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung had the most kills with nine while fellow South Korean Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in was the leading assist-getter with 15.

Eight teams competed in the best-of-three matches in the round-robin regular season, with the top six advancing to the playoffs of the League of Legends event. The double-elimination playoffs were all best-of-five matches in a double-elimination format.

As tournament runner-up, Team Liquid also qualified for the Mid-Season Invitational.

2. Team Liquid (Mid-Season Invitational berth)
