Jarren Duran had a three-run homer and Connor Wong singled home a pair in a six-run ninth inning, lifting the visiting Boston Red Sox to a 9-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday afternoon.

Wong gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the sixth with an RBI double off Matt Festa (1-1), scoring pinch-hitter Marcelo Mayer, and tacked on a two-run single in the ninth against Will Dion. Boston won for the second time in its last eight games.

Boston starter Sonny Gray (6-1) worked six innings, giving up one run on four hits in extending his winning streak to four games. The right-hander struck out seven and walked three in becoming one of four American League pitchers with four wins in May.

Caleb Durbin had two RBIs and two hits for the Red Sox, who improved to 14-16 under interim manager Chad Tracy. Boston scored the final nine runs, aided by Cleveland making a season-high four errors.

The AL Central-leading Guardians went up 1-0 in the first when Jose Ramirez doubled in rookie Travis Bazzana. It was his 977th career RBI, which ranks second in franchise history.

The Red Sox tied it in the fourth on Durbin’s sacrifice fly off Parker Messick that plated Andruw Monasterio, then went in front two innings later.

Rookie Messick worked five innings, giving up one run on five hits with a pair of walks. The left-hander struck out four and lowered his ERA to 2.21, which ranks eighth in the majors, while his record remained 6-1.

Wong’s RBI double in the sixth was initially called a homer, but crew chief John Tumpane initiated a review that ruled it struck the yellow line before bouncing off the guardrail.

Gray tossed a one-hit shutout in his last start in Cleveland on June 27, 2025, striking out 11 while a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up two hits on his first five pitches this time with Bazzana doubling and scoring on Ramirez’s double.

Dion allowed six runs in his lone inning of relief, fueled by errors by third baseman Ramirez and left fielder Stuart Fairchild.

The Guardians lost right fielder Angel Martinez to left foot inflammation in the fifth. They remain without Gold Glove-winning left fielder Steven Kwan, who was placed on the bereavement/family medical emergency list before the series opener.

Pete Alonso capped Baltimore’s five-run ninth inning with a walk-off single as in the Orioles stunned the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Saturday.

The Orioles rallied with four hits, three walks and a hit batter in the ninth to end a two-game skid. Baltimore was held to three singles through eight innings.

Toronto’s Kazuma Okamoto doubled in two runs in the eighth, but Toronto’s winning streak was halted at four games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. racked up four hits, including a double, and scored twice, while Ernie Clement had two singles as part of the Blue Jays’ 11-hit attack.

The Blue Jays pulled off four double plays, ending the second, third and fourth innings, and squashing a rally in the sixth. Those defensive plays helped to compensate — for a while — for the 11 walks drawn by the Orioles, who dropped the first two games of the series by one-run margins.

Yariel Rodriguez, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland all logged one scoreless inning out of the Toronto bullpen. Jeff Hoffman (4-4) gave up ninth-inning runs on Leody Taveras’ triple, Baltimore’s first extra-base hit of the game, and Jackson Holliday’s single.

Then Colton Cowser doubled and Taylor Ward walked to put the potential winning run at second base with one out. Gunnar Henderson walked to force in a run, causing Hoffman’s exit and bringing on Connor Seabold. Adley Rutschman drew a walk on a full-count pitch to tie the score before Alonso delivered.

The Blue Jays are losers for just the third time in their last 11 games.

Toronto starter Trey Yesavage, in his first matchup with Baltimore, held the Orioles to one run and two hits in five innings despite issuing seven walks while striking out four.

Orioles starter Brandon Young lasted 6 2/3 innings and was charged with two runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Anthony Nunez was dinged with two eighth-inning runs, though Keegan Akin surrendered Okamoto’s double. Albert Suarez (2-0) pitched the ninth for the victory.

The Orioles scored first on Henderson’s third-inning single.

Toronto went on top in the fourth, with Jesus Sanchez doubling in the tying run with two outs and then scoring on Clement’s single.

After extending the advantage in the eighth, the Blue Jays tacked on an insurance run in the ninth aided by right fielder Cowser’s error.

Jeremy Pena and Isaac Paredes capped three-run uprisings with two-run, extra-base hits to help the Houston Astros claim a 9-2 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Pena finished 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Paredes went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Yordan Alvarez and Jake Meyers also produced multi-hit games for the Astros, while Christian Walker clubbed his 16th homer, an opposite-field, three-run shot in the eighth.

Meyers’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the second inning plated Cam Smith and pulled the Astros even at 1-1. Two batters later, Pena drilled a two-run home run out to left field, his third home run of the season covering 392 feet and lifting the Astros to a 3-1 lead.

Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat (1-4) stranded runners on the corners in the bottom of the first by getting Paredes to ground out to the right side of the infield. He retired seven of the next eight batters after the Pena homer, but came undone when Pena led off the fifth with a single.

Sproat departed after hitting Walker with a pitch, and Taylor Trammell greeted Brewers reliever Carlos Rodriguez with an infield RBI single that ricocheted off the glove of first baseman Andrew Vaughn. Pena barely beat the throw home from second baseman Brice Turang.

Paredes extended the Astros’ 4-2 lead when he roped a double to left that scored Walker and Trammell. Sproat was charged with five runs, six hits, and posted four strikeouts in 4? innings.

Astros right-hander Peter Lambert (4-4) labored over five innings but effectively kept the Brewers in check.

William Contreras’ RBI double in the top of the first drove home Turang and spotted the Brewers a 1-0 lead. Jackson Chourio stroked an RBI single in the fifth that pulled the Brewers to within 3-2, but Lambert stranded the bases loaded by getting Contreras to ground out to Pena at short.

Lambert surrendered two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The Brewers lost for just the fifth time over their last 21 games, while the Astros have won 10 of 15.

Christian Scott pitched five effective innings for his first career win, and the New York Mets scored three runs in the fourth inning of their 6-1 victory over the visiting Miami Marlins on Saturday.

Following a pregame ceremony when former outfielder Lee Mazzilli and former manager Bobby Valentine were inducted into New York’s Hall of Fame, the Mets won their third straight for the fifth time this season.

In his 16th career start, Scott (1-0) allowed one run on five hits. The 26-year-old right-hander matched a career best by getting eight strikeouts for the third time in his career while issuing a pair of walks and throwing a season-high 96 pitches.

Mark Vientos hit a two-run double and Marcus Semien hit an RBI single in the fourth when the Mets went ahead 3-0 against Miami’s Tyler Phillips (0-1). Jared Young added a long homer in the sixth as the Mets won their second straight over the Marlins after getting swept in a three-game series in Miami last weekend.

Hayden Senger padded the lead with his first career homer in the seventh and Juan Soto delivered an RBI single later in the inning as the Mets finished with 10 hits.

Liam Hicks hit an RBI single in the fifth as the Marlins dropped their fourth straight and lost for the seventh time in 11 games. Miami also set a season high by striking out 15 times.

After pitching 3 2/3 shutout innings Sunday against the Mets, Phillips allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked one.

The Mets ran themselves out of the third before going ahead.

Following a walk by Soto and a base hit by Young, Vientos hit a double off the top of the left field fence for a 2-0 lead. Semien followed with a base hit to right after Vientos advanced to third on a groundout by rookie A.J. Ewing.

Scott struck out Owen Casissie with a runner on first in the fourth before the Mets went ahead and stranded Hicks by retiring Otto Lopez.

Cionel Perez logged a strikeout in his Mets debut in the sixth and Huascar Brazoban pitched a scoreless seventh before the Mets opened a 6-1 lead. Austin Warren fanned two with two on in the eighth and Devin Williams finished up.
