Braves manager Brian Snitker ready to pack his bags

Brian Snitker barely had time to digest the finality of the 2024 season when the Braves’ manager was asked if he plans to be back with Atlanta in 2025.
With a wild-card sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres completed, Snitker confirmed he’s ready to pack his bags — for spring training.
“Absolutely,” Snitker said. “I wish spring training started tomorrow, quite honestly. I just told the guys that. I can’t wait to get to camp and hopefully have our guys whole again. And I’m going to be excited to get there probably more than I ever have been next year, quite honestly. I said I’m exhausted but, honestly, I wish we could fast-forward and be there tomorrow. I’m serious, too. I can’t wait to get there with our guys and do this again.”
After a 101-win season in 2021, Snitker signed a three-year contract extension that expires after the 2025 season. He turns 69 later this month.
The Braves needed a win in one of the final two games of the regular season, which turned out to be a doubleheader on Monday, to secure a playoff spot. Before getting the job done in the second game of Monday’s twinbill with the New York Mets, injuries hit Atlanta again, extending a theme of the season. All-Star left-hander Chris Sale was scratched from the scheduled start and left off the wild-card roster with a back injury.
Coming off of another 104-win season in 2023, most of the Braves’ top players had at least one visit to the injured list. Reigning National League MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. (ACL) and ace Spencer Strider (UCL surgery) were relegated to rehabilitation from season-ending injuries and aren’t guaranteed to be field-ready when Snitker gets to Florida for spring training.
Acuna was lost for the season in May and had ACL surgery for the second time.
Strider went 20-5 with 281 strikeouts, leading MLB in both categories, in 2023. He had surgery April 13 and it’s unclear if he will start the 2025 season on the injured list.
Even without them, the Braves managed to win 89 games and Snitker said he’s never been more proud of any team in the face of injuries and adversity.
“Not an excuse,” Snitker said. “Like I said before, everybody goes through stuff getting here. It’s hard to navigate seven months for every team, all 30 of us.
“Just the tenacity, the drive, the consistency, the work ethic, how they never — everything that these guys went through, nobody was ever, woe is me, and they weren’t griping about anything. They just kept playing. They kept playing. They kept working. The energy never waned. Their attitude’s never waned.”

The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was acquired by the Rams in a June 1 trade that sent Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a first-round selection in 2027, to the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett’s restructured five-year, $208.2 million deal includes $37 million fully guaranteed in 2026 and $99 million guaranteed through the 2028 season along with a signing bonus and multiple option bonuses, according to Spotrac.
Garrett’s revised cap numbers include $8.8 million in 2026, $15.0 million in 2027, $27.6 million in 2028, $39.9 million in 2029 and $48.2 million in 2030, with another $39.9 million not scheduled to count against the cap until after the contract voids in February 2031, according to NFL Network.
His salary for the upcoming season climbs from $31.5 million to $37 million, per the reports.
The Rams have become a heavy favorite to win Super Bowl LXI, which will be played in their own stadium in February 2027. The last time the Rams won a Super Bowl after the 2021 season, it was also in their stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
Garrett, 30, had an NFL-record 23 sacks for the Browns last season. His 125.5 career sacks equate to an average of 15.9 per season. He also led the league with 33 tackles for loss last season.
The five-time All-Pro selection was the first overall draft pick of the Browns in 2017 and had 412 tackles, 149 tackles for loss and 239 quarterback hits in 134 games (131 starts) with Cleveland.

Morris, 25, is looking for more playing time after starting a total of 16 games during his first three seasons.
The 6-foot-6, 307-pound tackle has appeared in 43 games since the Chiefs drafted him in the third round in 2023.
Morris won a Super Bowl championship during his rookie campaign but made only one start last season.

Sceptres hire Pascal Rheaume as new head coach

Rheaume, 52, most recently was an assistant coach with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders for the last two seasons.
He replaces Troy Ryan, Toronto’s inaugural coach who left last month to coach expansion side PWHL San Jose.
“Pascal brings a fresh perspective, a new voice, and valuable professional experience to our organization,” Sceptres general manager Gina Kingsbury said.
“Pascal is known for his commitment to hard work and fostering a close-knit locker room. We believe Pascal’s leadership, experience, and approach to player development will have a tremendous impact on our group as we continue to build and strive towards new heights as a professional organization.”

Rheaume arrives with more than 14 years of coaching experience following a nine-year NHL career with six teams from 1997-2005. The forward won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2002-03.
