Brand-new PGA Tour member Ben James is showing the veterans how it’s done.

In the second round of his professional debut, James fired a 7-under-par 63 to take the lead at the RBC Canadian Open on Friday in Caledon, Ontario.

James heads to the weekend at 10-under 130 after two rounds at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s North course. Sam Burns (67), Jackson Suber (65), Keith Mitchell (64), Haotong Li of China (64) and Jesper Svensson of Sweden (65) are tied for second at 9 under.

James, 23, was awarded a PGA Tour card on June 1 after he finished the college season No. 1 in the PGA Tour University standings, a direct pathway for one collegiate golfer to make the big leagues. He wrapped up a decorated career at the University of Virginia and headed to Canada — stopping Monday in Purchase, N.Y., to qualify for the U.S. Open. He earned one of four spots available at that qualifying site.

He holed a 22-foot eagle putt on the par-5 first hole Friday and went on to make five birdies in a bogey-free round. The 63 is tied for the low round of the tournament, as Bud Cauley also shot a 63 Friday.

Cauley is tied at 8 under with Brooks Koepka (68), England’s Tommy Fleetwood (65), Brice Garnett (67) and defending champion Ryan Fox of New Zealand (66).

The projected cut line stood at 2-under-par with the final few groups finishing Friday evening. On track to miss the cut are PGA champion Aaron Rai of England (1 under), Garrick Higgo of South Africa (1 under), Canadians Corey Conners (even) and Mackenzie Hughes (2 over), Englishman Justin Rose (2 over) and Colombia’s Camilo Villegas (2 over).

The chemistry between Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston was on full display Thursday night in an overtime game when the Indiana Fever massively needed the production.

The duo hopes to contribute to another win Saturday night when Indiana visits the league-worst Connecticut Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

Indiana (7-5, 3-1 Commissioner’s Cup) is attempting to win three straight for the second time. The Fever also won three straight from May 17-22 before dropping three of four from May 28-June 6.

Indiana is coming off a pair of single-digit victories at Washington and at home against Chicago. In a 114-106 overtime win over Chicago, Boston totaled a career-high 34 points and 12 rebounds while Clark compiled 32, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Boston was 13 of 26 from the floor after not attempting more than 15 shots in Indiana’s first 10 games. Clark tied her season high for points by hitting 15 free throws without a miss.

The duo also teamed up for 12 of Indiana’s 16 points in overtime and eight of Clark’s assists were to Boston. They became the first teammates to have 30-point double-doubles in the same game.

“I feel like I always know where Aliyah is,” Clark said after her seventh career 30-point game. “I think we got a little bit of telepathy now.”

The Sun (2-12, 0-4 CC) have been outscored by 34 points in their four-game skid since earning an 84-81 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on May 30.

After narrow defeats to Chicago and New York, the Sun lost a 14-point, third-quarter lead and took a 106-102 loss at the expansion Toronto Tempo on Wednesday. It was the Sun’s six loss by single digits and third time they allowed at least 100 points.

The Sun are hoping to see another big game from Leila Lacan, who scored 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Lacan enjoyed her big game after shooting 29.5% (13-of-44) in her first four games back from international commitments.

Lacan’s big night occurred as Brittney Griner (strained left rib) and Aneesah Morrow (strained left leg) sat out for the second straight game. Aaliyah Edwards started both games for Morrow and scored 24 while Olivia Nelson-Ododa contributed 13 rebounds in place of Griner.

“I think the energy that we came out with to start the game and honestly to fight all the way through 40 minutes, 45 minutes, we just got to continue to put our best foot forward,” Sun rookie Charlisse Leger-Walker said.

Columbus Clippers’s Daniel Espino participates in practice at Huntington Park on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio.Columbus Clippers’s Daniel Espino participates in practice at Huntington Park on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Cleveland Guardians called up former top prospect Daniel Espino ahead of Friday’s series opener against the visiting Detroit Tigers.

The 25-year-old right-hander was Cleveland’s first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2019 draft and is in line to make his long-awaited major league debut.

Espino was called up from Triple-A Columbus, where he has been used in a variety of situations as a reliever this season. He is 1-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 22 games (one start) with 29 strikeouts and 15 walks in 18 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Codi Heuer was optioned to Columbus on Thursday, creating room on the 26-man roster for Espino.

Espino made four starts at Double-A Akron to start the 2022 season and was a top-20 prospect, posting a 2.45 ERA before injuries derailed his career.

He missed the rest of the 2022 campaign and all of 2023 and 2024 with right shoulder and right knee injuries that required multiple surgeries, returning to make one appearance in Triple-A in 2025.

Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov and Vezina winner Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning are among six players voted to the NHL First All-Star Team, the league announced Friday.

The Columbus Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski, winner of the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman, also was named along with Ted Lindsay Award winner (most outstanding player) Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, Norris finalist Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson.

Kucherov, Makar and Werenski were first-team selections in 2024-25, and all six have received the honor in previous seasons.

McDavid leads active players with his sixth nods at center on the first team, tying him for second all-time with Jean Believeau, Phil Esposito and Stan Mikita. Wayne Gretzky was an eight-time first-team selection.

Kucherov, the Hart Memorial Trophy winner as most valuable player, is tops among active players with his fifth first-team selection at right wing, tied for fifth all-time. Gordie Howe has the most with 12.

Makar now has four first-team selections, second among active blueliners behind Erik Karlsson (five).

Vasilevskiy, the Vezina Trophy winner as top goaltender, tied Connor Hellebuyck among active goalies with his third selection to the first team.

Robertson also was the first-team pick at left wing in the 2022-23 season.

The NHL Second All-Star Team features four making their debut: left wing Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens, defensemen Evan Bouchard of the Oilers and Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres, and goaltender Logan Thompson of the Washington Capitals.

The other selections are Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and Boston Bruins right wing David Pastrnak. Both now have three appearances on the second team to go with two first-team picks.

The Professional Hockey Writers Association voted on the all-star teams as the end of the regular season.
