Yordan Alvarez ties Astros' record for career slams in win over Twins
Jun 30, 2026; Houston, Texas, USA; Houston Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez (44) reacts after hitting a grand slam against the Minnesota Twins in the fourth inning at Daikin Park. Mandatory Credit: Thomas Shea-Imagn Images Yordan Alvarez capped a six-run fourth inning with his third grand slam of the season as the Houston Astros rallied past the visiting Minnesota Twins 6-4 on Tuesday.
Alvarez tied the franchise record with his seventh career grand slam, joining Alex Bregman, Carlos Lee and Jose Altuve. It was his 26th home run of the season.
The Astros evened the three-game series at one win apiece behind Alvarez and a resilient effort from right-hander Mike Burrows, who overcame a ragged first inning to notch his first victory since May 27.
Twins right-hander Joe Ryan (5-5) kept the Astros in check through the first three innings.
However, Houston strung together three consecutive one-out hits to ignite the rally in the fourth, with Yainer Diaz delivering an RBI single that cut the Twins’ lead to 3-1. Ryan got a called third strike on Nick Allen for the second out of the frame before issuing walks to Raynel Delgado and Altuve.
Altuve challenged a called third strike that would have snuffed the rally, but an ABS review resulted in Altuve earning a bases-loaded walk. That set the table for Alvarez, who followed by driving a 1-1 sinker from Ryan 395 feet to right-center field.
Ryan allowed six runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over four innings.
The Twins pounced on Burrows in the first. Trevor Larnach walked, Kody Clemens singled and Royce Lewis walked, loading the bases with two outs. Burrows hit Victor Caratini with a pitch to put Minnesota on top, and Ryan Kreidler followed with a two-run single to left for a 3-0 lead.
Burrows (4-8) needed 30 pitches to escape the first. He found his stride in the second inning and didn’t falter until Josh Bell smashed an RBI double to straightaway center that scored Clemens with two outs in the fifth.
Burrows allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings. Josh Hader, the fourth Houston reliever, fanned two in a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save.

Harmony Tan blocked by Serena Williams 4 years after Wimbledon upset
Jun 28, 2022; London, United Kingdom; Harmony Tan (FRA) celebrates winning her first round match against Serena Williams (USA) on day two at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images On the day of Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon Tuesday, an opponent from her last Wimbledon appearance dug up some dirt about the tennis legend on social media.
Harmony Tan, who upset Williams in a three-plus-hour battle in the first round of the 2022 event in London, posted on her Instagram account that Williams blocked her on social media after the loss occurred.
“So 4 years ago after the handshake, she blocked me also on Instagram, btw,” Tan posted in an Instagram story accompanied by a sweating emoji and a laughing emoji.

Williams, 44, played her first grand-slam match since the 2022 U.S. Open on Tuesday after she was given a wild-card berth into Wimbledon. She fell 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 in a two-hour, 22-minute match against Australia’s Maya Joint.
Tan reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2022 after the defeat of Williams, the deepest major run of her career. The 28-year-old Frenchwoman hasn’t made the main draw of a Grand Slam since the 2022 U.S. Open, coming up one match short of making this year’s Wimbledon field when she lost to Italy’s Tyra Caterina Grant in the final round of qualifying.
That denied Tan the opportunity for a Wimbledon rematch with Williams.
“She’s a legend, you know? She can come back everywhere. I hope I can qualify and maybe play Serena for the first round,” Tan told WTA during the lead-up to Wimbledon.

Whitecaps MF Kenji Cabrera undergoes foot surgery
Mar 15, 2026; Vancouver, British Columbia, CAN; Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Kenji Cabrera (17) warms up against the Minnesota United fC at BC Place. Mandatory Credit: Anne-Marie Sorvin-Imagn Images Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Kenji Cabrera will miss an extended stretch after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a fifth metatarsal fracture in his right foot.
The club said Cabrera is expected to fully recover in four to six months, which could affect the rest of his MLS season depending on how quickly he recovers. A four-month recovery might allow him to return late in the campaign, but a longer timeframe could push his comeback past the season’s end.
Cabrera has played in 13 matches (five starts) in 2026, compiling one goal and three assists in all competitions. Since joining Vancouver from Peru’s FBC Melgar in July 2025, the 23-year-old has appeared in 26 matches (seven starts), producing three goals and three assists.
The injury removes another attacking option from a Whitecaps side already trying to manage its roster through the middle of the season. Cabrera has also been part of Peru’s senior national team picture this year, earning three call-ups in 2026, including for two June friendlies.
Vancouver (10-2-2, 32 points) sits in first place in MLS’ Western Conference. The Whitecaps return from the league’s extended World Cup break for a July 16 road match against the Chicago Fire.

The White Sox scored on Benintendi’s first-inning double to open the scoring. The Orioles countered in the bottom of the inning on Basallo’s run-scoring single.
Chicago was back on top on Montgomery’s two-run homer, which also drove in Benintendi, in the third. The White Sox kept going, with Gonzalez driving in two runs with a single before Perez’s three-run shot.
Gonzalez, who had his second three-RBI game in as many nights, doubled in a fourth-inning run with two outs.
