Steven Kwan saves run, drives in 2 as Guardians beat Marlins
Jul 11, 2026; Miami, Florida, USA; Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee (28) throws against the Miami Marlins during the first inning at loanDepot Park. Mandatory Credit: Rhona Wise-Imagn Images Nine-hole hitter Steven Kwan lined a two-out, two-strike, two-run double and also produced a run-saving defensive gem, leading the Guardians to a 4-1 win over the host Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.
Cleveland also got a two-out, two-strike, two-run double from eight-hole hitter Patrick Bailey in the eighth to add some insurance.
Tanner Bibee, who started this season 0-7 with six no-decisions, earned the win. Bibee (3-9) turned in a quality start, allowing five hits, four walks and one run in 6 2/3 innings.
Eury Perez, who pitched seven perfect innings in his previous start, took the loss. Perez (5-7) allowed eight hits, two walks and two runs in six innings. He struck out six.
Cleveland loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, but Perez struck out Kyle Manzardo and got Kahlil Watson to bounce into a double play.
Miami threatened in the third on two-out walks to Otto Lopez and Kyle Stowers. Xavier Edwards then followed with a single that nearly scored Lopez. However, before Lopez could step on home plate, Stowers was thrown out by Kwan, a four-time Gold Glove winner in left field. On the play, Stowers made too wide a turn from second base.
Cleveland opened the scoring in the fourth on a rally that started with singles from Gabriel Arias and Petey Halpin. The Guardians then executed a double steal before Kwan gave them a 2-0 lead with his opposite-field double down the left-field line.
Miami got on the board in the seventh as rookie Joe Mack doubled, took third on a groundout and scored on Liam Hicks’ bloop single.
Cleveland came right back and extended its lead to 4-1 in the eighth. Manzardo was hit by a pitch, Watson doubled and Bailey nearly hit one out, settling for a two-run double off the wall in left.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kwan made another stellar play, sliding to grab a foul fly off the bat of Stowers.
With All-Star Cade Smith having pitched in each of the past three games, the Guardians turned to Colin Holderman, who pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth career save and first this year.

Matt Fitzpatrick surges, Rory McIlroy struggles in fog-shortened Scottish Open
Jun 14, 2026; Caledon, Ontario, CAN; Matt Fitzpatrick hits his tee shot at the second hole during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Michael Thorbjornsen and England’s Matt Fitzpatrick are tied at 11 under through a partial third round of the fog-hampered Genesis Scottish Open after play was suspended Saturday in North Berwick, Scotland.
That sets up a potentially long day of play Sunday at The Renaissance Club.
Johnny Keefer shot a 6-under-par 64 to become the leader in the clubhouse at 10 under. Others at 10 under are Kevin Roy (through 16 holes), Wyndham Clark (through 15), defending champion Chris Gotterup (through 10), Australia’s Min Woo Lee (through eight) and England’s Jordan Smith (through seven).
Smith was the second-round co-leader along with South Korea’s Tom Kim, who sits tied for 9th place through seven holes, and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who is tied for 25th through eight holes after struggling Saturday. McIlroy made three bogeys to fall back to 6 under for the tournament.
A fog delay of about 2 1/2 hours in the morning shortly after play began put the round off schedule and caused most of the field to have revised tee times.
Mac Meissner shot 64 and moved to within one stroke of the lead at 8 under before many of the groups even began their third rounds.
Play was halted again in the early evening because of fog and wasn’t resumed. Tournament officials have set 7 a.m. local time Sunday as the targeted time to resume the third round.
For many golfers, the Scottish Open is merely a pit stop on the way to next week’s Open Championship.
On Saturday, Thorbjornsen is at 5 under for his round and Fitzpatrick holds a 3-under score as he approaches the midway mark.
No golfer has won the Scottish Open in back-to-back years. Gotterup is also attempting to become the first golfer on the PGA Tour to win in back-to-back weeks this year after capturing the John Deere Classic last weekend.

Wings to take big stage vs Sky, look to extend winning streak
Jul 10, 2026; Montreal, Quebec, CAN; Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (5) and Toronto Tempo forward Isabelle Harrison (21) in the first half at the Bell Centre. Mandatory Credit: Eric Bolte-Imagn Images The Dallas Wings will look to build on a four-game winning streak when they host the Chicago Sky on Sunday in their home away from home.
The Wings’ home venue in Arlington, Texas, seats 7,000, but they will play host to the Sky in the 19,200-seat arena that is home to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
The Wings (15-8) returned to Dallas after sweeping four games on the road over an eight-day stretch, with the latest victory a come-from-behind 108-95 decision over the Toronto Tempo on Friday before a WNBA-record crowd of 20,996 fans in Montreal, Canada.
Paige Bueckers led the way for Dallas with 34 points, marking the sixth time in the last seven contests and 12th time this year that the second-year star guard paced the Wings in scoring.
“It was a good win, especially in the last game of this four-game road trip,” Dallas coach Jose Fernandez said. “Four straight wins on the road is huge.”
Dallas also received 20 points and 17 rebounds from Jessica Shepard in Friday’s win, while Arike Ogunbowale added 20 points and seven assists. Azzi Fudd scored 13 points, and Alysha Clark had 10.
“We’ve learned that we’re fighters,” Bueckers said. “We’re resilient. We stay composed and stay together regardless of what run the other team goes on. We fight until the final buzzer. We have different people who can step in and contribute on any given night. We’re a selfless team that’s willing to sacrifice for whoever has it going that night.”
“It’s really fun to play when everybody loves each other, loves coming to work, and shares the same goal, which is winning.”
Dallas has not won five straight games since July 7-22, 2023, the most recent season that the Wings earned a spot in the playoffs.
The Sky (7-15) travel to Big D for the final game of a four-game road trip, following a 102-87 setback to the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday. The loss was the third in the past four outings for Chicago, which was led by Kamilla Cardoso’s 15 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Taylor and reserve Gabriela Jaquez added 15 points each for the Sky, with Azura Stevens and Jacy Sheldon contributing 10 points each.
“We’ve been hanging our hat on our fight, on our grit, on our toughness, on our resilience,” Chicago coach Tyler Marsh said. “I think (against the Sparks) we just recognized this wasn’t the level of energy that we’ve approached the last several games with. We got to recommit to that.”
Skylar Diggins (right knee) missed her second straight game for Chicago. Marsh said Friday that the team doesn’t have a timeline for Diggins’ return and added that conversations about her role remain ongoing.
The Wings have won the first two games of the season series with Chicago, capturing contests on the road by 10 points May 20 and by one at home a month later.

Five White Sox pitchers combine to blank A's
Jul 11, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth (10) hits an RBI double against the Athletics during the sixth inning at Rate Field. Mandatory Credit: Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images Chase Meidroth’s RBI double lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 1-0 win over the visiting Athletics on Saturday.
Meidroth was 2-for-3 and Luisangel Acuna had two hits, while five Chicago pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout.
Erick Fedde (5-6) earned the win after allowing two hits and no runs, while walking one and striking out three over four innings. Grant Taylor walked one and struck out two over 1 2/3 innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
Joshua Kuroda-Grauer was 2-for-4 with a double and Jacob Wilson was 2-for-4 with a triple for the A’s.
Athletics starter Gage Jump (3-4) allowed one run on five hits, walked two and fanned seven in 5 2/3 innings.
The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the sixth. Colson Montgomery coaxed a two-out walk and scored on Meidroth’s double. Luis Medina relieved Jump and his first pitch hit Braden Montgomery, but he struck out Acuna on three pitches to end the inning.
Earlier, with one out in the second, Kuroda-Grauer singled to center and Lawrence Butler drew a walk. Carlos Cortes flied out to right, but Braden Montgomery’s throw sailed wide of second, allowing both runners to advance to second and third.
Randal Grichuk’s diving grab of Jeff McNeil’s popup into shallow left got Chicago out of the jam.
In the third, Grichuk’s one-out double skipped past a diving Kuroda-Grauer at third and rattled around in the left field corner. Munetaka Murakami walked, but Miguel Vargas grounded into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.
Kuroda-Grauer lined a leadoff double to left field to open the seventh, and Sean Newcomb relieved Fedde. After Newcomb walked Lawrence Butler, pinch hitters Colby Thomas and Alika Williams each popped out before Henry Bolte struck out to end the threat.
Wilson led off the eighth with a triple. After Tyler Soderstrom grounded out, Newcomb gave way to Taylor, who ended the inning with a strikeout and a groundout.
After Bryan Hudson pitched a 1-2-3 first, Chris Murphy tossed a scoreless second before Fedde entered and settled into a groove, retiring the first 10 batters he faced.
