The Washington Wizards don’t intend to trade veteran forward Anthony Davis after acquiring him at last season’s trade deadline, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Buzz about a potential trade for Davis emerged on Monday when ESPN reported that the Golden State Warriors intended to pursue LeBron James in free agency and trade for Davis to reunite the teammates who won the 2020 NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers.

James confirmed Tuesday that he’s going to leave the Lakers, but Washington seems to be making the second half of those plans difficult. It was reported last week that the Wizards are set to sign Trae Young to a four-year, $212 million deal after also trading for him at the trade deadline.

Davis will be eligible for a four-year, $275 million contract extension on Aug. 6, a deal that would replace the player option he currently has for the 2027-28 season. Inking those two to longer-term deals and pairing them with No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa gives the Wizards a core of sorts as they look to snap a five-year playoff drought.

Davis, 33, still hasn’t made his Washington debut as he was sidelined with ligament damage in his left hand when sent over from the Dallas Mavericks in February. He played a career-low 20 games last season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks, and has battled injuries frequently, playing more than 56 games just once in the last six seasons.

The 10-time All-Star has career averages of 24.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in 807 games (800 starts) over 14 seasons with the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans (2012-19), Los Angeles Lakers (2019-25) and Mavericks.

Colson Montgomery and Junior Perez homered during Chicago’s seven-run third inning as the visiting White Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-3 on Tuesday night.

Jacob Gonzalez had three hits and drove in three runs and Andrew Benintendi provided three hits. Tristan Peters added two hits and scored twice as Chicago won for the sixth time in its last eight games.

By winning on back-to-back nights, the White Sox will win a series against Baltimore for the first time since July 2021 regardless of the result of Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.

Erick Fedde (3-6) picked up the victory, going five innings and yielding three runs on five hits, striking out and walking three apiece.

Tyler Schweitzer pitched the final four innings for the rookie’s first career save, striking out three without a walk and allowing four hits.

Gunnar Henderson had two hits and scored two runs and Blaze Alexander and Samuel Basallo each notched two hits for the Orioles, whose losing streak grew to four games. They have lost six of their last seven games.

Orioles starter Trey Gibson (1-3) was dinged for eight runs on seven hits and six walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

The White Sox scored on Benintendi’s first-inning double to open the scoring. The Orioles countered in the bottom of the inning on Basallo’s run-scoring single.

Chicago was back on top on Montgomery’s two-run homer, which also drove in Benintendi, in the third. The White Sox kept going, with Gonzalez driving in two runs with a single before Perez’s three-run shot.

Gonzalez, who had his second three-RBI game in as many nights, doubled in a fourth-inning run with two outs.

Dylan Beavers’s RBI double and Pete Alonso’s RBI single drove in Baltimore runs in the fifth.

The White Sox finished with 11 hits, though they didn’t score after the fourth inning. Chicago batters struck out 13 times.

Cristopher Sanchez worked seven strong innings while guiding the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-0 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.

Sanchez (10-3) allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out nine, as he became the first starting pitcher to reach 10 wins this season. He has pitched 16 scoreless innings in two dominant starts against the Pirates this year.

Justin Crawford had three hits and three RBIs for Philadelphia, while Trea Turner added a homer, a double and three RBIs on his 33rd birthday.

Esmerlyn Valdez’s four-game homer streak came to an end, although the Pittsburgh rookie still went 2-for-3 with a walk. Bubba Chandler (3-8) yielded five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Sanchez fanned five of the first six batters he faced, setting the stage for his teammates to score two runs in the bottom of the second.

Alec Bohm singled with one out. After a groundout, Chandler hit J.T. Realmuto with a pitch and allowed a single to Gabriel Rincones Jr. to load the bases. Crawford then fouled off five pitches before sending a two-run single into left field.

Sanchez allowed a leadoff walk in both the third and fourth innings but limited the damage each time. In the fifth, the lefty gave up a one-out double to Billy Cook before retiring the next two batters.

In the sixth, Sanchez allowed just a leadoff single to Valdez. Sanchez then worked a 1-2-3 seventh before ending his night after 92 pitches.

Philadelphia plated three insurance runs in the seventh against Chandler and reliever Isaac Mattson.

Rincones drew a leadoff walk before Turner’s RBI double made it 3-0. Kyle Schwarber followed with a hit to put runners on the corners.

Pittsburgh then summoned Mattson, who gave up an RBI single to Bryce Harper as the hosts went ahead 4-0. A fielder’s-choice grounder from Brandon Marsh plated another run.

Phillies reliever Jonathan Bowlan allowed a walk and a single in the eighth but struck out the other three batters he faced.

Turner’s opposite-field, two-run homer highlighted a three-run eighth for Philadelphia against Brandan Bidois.

Lou Trivino worked around a single in the ninth to seal the Phillies’ 10th shutout win of the season. Philadelphia earned its eighth win in the past 11 games, while Pittsburgh had a two-game winning streak snapped.

The teams have split the first two contests of a four-game series.

Sabrina Ionescu scored 26 points, Breanna Stewart added 25 and the host New York Liberty defeated the Las Vegas Aces — playing without A’ja Wilson — to win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship 93-85 on Tuesday night.

Rookie Pauline Astier added 15 points and four assists, and Stewart posted a game-high 11 rebounds as the Liberty became the first team to win the Cup twice.

Jackie Young scored a game-high 31 points for Las Vegas, while reserve Chennedy Carter added 18. Young and Chelsea Gray each had seven assists.

Wilson, a four-time league MVP who leads the WNBA in scoring (25.7) this season, suffered an injury to her right ankle on Sunday against Chicago. She is expected back later this week.

With the win, the Liberty earned a $500,000 prize pool that comes out to be about $30,000 per player. The team also got $10,000 for a charity of its choice. Stewart was named MVP, which comes with a $5,000 bonus.

Las Vegas took its first lead of the game at 71-69 on Young’s runner in the lane with 7:25 left in the fourth. New York responded right away, with Astier’s long 3-pointer igniting a 12-0 run.

In the final minute, Young missed a crucial layup. Ionescu then buried a 34-footer for her fifth 3-pointer of the night, and the Liberty had the Cup.

Ionescu scored New York’s first eight points on 3-for-3 shooting, including two from deep. That early spurt helped the Liberty take a 27-21 lead at the end of a first quarter, during which the Aces missed all six of their 3-point tries.

New York led 51-37 at halftime due to a pair of key stats. The Liberty made 17 of 17 from the foul line as compared to just 1 of 2 for the Aces; New York also made 4 of 14 3-point tries compared to 0 for 11 for Las Vegas.

Ionescu led all first-half scorers with 17 points. Carter had 12 for Las Vegas.

After missing its first 13 3-pointers, Las Vegas finally connected from deep on Jewell Loyd’s shot with 7:09 left in the third. The Aces rode that momentum and cut New York’s lead to 65-62 after three quarters. Las Vegas turned the tables with three 3-pointers in the frame while New York went 0-for-7.
