Oilers, Predators out to improve positioning in playoff race

“I think the first two periods, we were playing extremely well, and even in the third, we had some chances and a good push,” said Kasperi Kapanen, who opened the scoring.
“It sucks right now, but we just got to forget this one and move on.”
Connor McDavid also scored for the Oilers as they jumped to a 2-0 lead. However, the Blues responded with three unanswered to steal the extra point.
Connor Ingram made 22 saves for Edmonton, which has dropped back-to-back games while clinging to the third seed in the Pacific Division.
“I don’t think it could have went much better for us in the first 40 minutes and in the third with a nice lead,” said Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch. “(St. Louis) had a strong push, and it’s unfortunate that it could have been an outstanding road trip getting three out of the four, but losing and only getting one point in the last two games is disappointing for us.”
The Oilers, who are 16-11-4 on home ice, open a four-game homestand looking to improve on a 4-5-1 stretch.
McDavid entered Saturday with a league-leading 74 assists and 111 points and paces the Oilers with 37 goals through 67 games.
Ingram is 9-6-2 in 20 games, posting an .891 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average. Stuart Skinner, Edmonton’s other goalie, is 11-8-4 with an .891 save percentage and a 2.83 GAA in 23 games.
Edmonton was without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Friday night. The Oilers forward returned home for personal reasons and was replaced in the lineup by Max Jones.
Sunday is the teams’ third and final meeting. The Oilers picked up a 6-2 home win on Jan. 6. Seven days later, the Predators responded with a 4-3 home victory in overtime.
Nashville travels to Edmonton as part of a five-game road trip, looking to keep its Western Conference wild-card chase alive. The Predators, 3-4-3 over their last 10, trailed the Los Angeles Kings by two points for the final spot entering Saturday’s action.
The Predators have been off since Thursday night, when they surrendered a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Vancouver Canucks.
Tyson Jost scored a pair and Matthew Wood had the other for the Predators, who are 12-14-6 on the road. Juuse Saros made 24 saves.
Wood’s goal extended his career-high point streak to four games (four goals, one assist).
“Grateful to get a point. Probably didn’t deserve one,” Nashville coach Andrew Brunette said. “(Vancouver was) the better team from the puck drop, and it’s one of those nights for a group that we’re kind of hard to figure out. Obviously, it hurts blowing a two-goal lead late in the game, but we didn’t really deserve to be in the game.”
Steven Stamkos has a team-high 31 goals in 65 games, while Ryan O’Reilly paces the Predators with 39 assists and 61 points through 64 contests.
Saros is 23-19-7 with an .893 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA in 50 starts. He handled both previous games with the Oilers.

Phillies OF Johan Rojas banned 80 games for failed PED test

Rojas tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Boldenone, MLB said in a statement.
Rojas’ suspension kicks in at the start of the regular season. The Phillies open at home against the Texas Rangers on March 26. Their 81st game is scheduled for June 25 at the Washington Nationals.
“The Phillies fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and are disappointed to hear today’s news of Johan’s violation,” the Phillies said in a statement.
Rojas, 25, was entering his fourth season in MLB, all with Philadelphia. He appeared in 71 games in 2025 and batted .224 with one home run, 18 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. In 250 career games, Rojas has amassed six homers, 73 RBIs and 51 stolen bases while batting .252.

Alabama G Aden Holloway hit with felony drug charge, 'removed from campus'

Mandatory Credit: Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News Alabama starting guard Aden Holloway was arrested on felony drug possession on Monday, four days before the fourth-seeded Crimson Tide play their NCAA Tournament opener.
The university said Holloway was “removed from campus” and not with the team as it begins practice in preparation for a first-round game in Tampa against No. 13 seed Hofstra (24-10).
“The student has been removed from campus pending further investigation by the UA Office of Student Conduct,” Alabama said in a statement.
Holloway, a 21-year-old junior, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana (not for personal use), a Class C felony in the state. He was also charged with failure to affix a tax stamp, another felony. He paid the $5,000 bond and was released from jail Monday morning.
Police said a “West Alabama Narcotics Task Force seized more than a pound of weed, paraphernalia and cash from his residence.”
Holloway was second on the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game and averaged 3.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 43.8% from 3-point range in 28 games (27 starts) in 2025-2026. He played his first season at Auburn in 2023-24 before transferring to Alabama.

Shohei Ohtani ready to rejoin Dodgers rotation, could pitch this week

Ohtani had one hit in three at-bats in the only game he played with the Dodgers this spring before joining Japan for the World Baseball Classic. He was not available to pitch for Japan, which lost to Venezuela in the quarterfinals on Saturday to the surprise of Ohtani and the Dodgers.
Now, with Ohtani back in camp earlier than expected, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said there’s a strong chance Ohtani will pitch in a game this week or early next week.
“Last year, we had the plan to start from one inning to keep him with us active and playing. I think this year, we’re certainly north of that,” Roberts said. “I don’t see how we won’t be able to get three or four innings from him in a Major League game. So that’s certainly a better jumping-off point than last year. We’ll see how it goes.”
Ohtani threw a four-inning simulated game last week in Miami with Japan. He’s not starting from scratch, which is why the Dodgers are comfortable planning for him to begin the regular season as part of the starting rotation, Roberts said.
Ohtani made 14 regular-season and four playoff starts for the Dodgers in 2025. After amassing 62 strikeouts and a 2.87 ERA in 47 innings during the regular season, he posted a 2-1 record with a 4.43 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 20 1/3 postseason innings. He did not pitch for the Dodgers in 2024 after underdoing surgery to fix an injured ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
