NYCFC, Red Bulls play to draw in Hudson River Derby

Jorge Ruvalcaba scored for the Red Bulls (5-5-4, 19 points), and Andres Perea scored on a header off a free kick by Nicolas Fernandez for New York City (5-5-4, 19 points).
In the 44th minute, Ronald Donkor played a pass wide to Davi Alexandre, whose cross drew three defenders to Julian Hall. The pass was deflected to Ruvalcaba, who cleaned up the loose ball for a 1-0 lead.
New York City leveled the match in the 52nd minute on a set piece when Perea headed Fernandez’s free kick inside the back post.
The rivalry match heated up in the 22nd minute when twin yellow cards were issued. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty and Agustin Ojeda collided while both tracking a soaring pass.
When Marshall-Rutty stood, he hovered over Ojeda, who sprang up and was shoved by the Red Bulls defender. Players from both clubs quickly gathered, and yellow cards were issued to Marshall-Rutty and Raul Gustavo after he joined the fray.
Second-half substitute Malachi Jones quickly made his presence felt, slicing a shot from the penalty area over the crossbar in the 47th minute.
Jones pressed again in the 59th minute, blasting a right-footed shot that forced Ethan Horvath into a diving save. Moments later, a long pass sent Jones into a 1-on-1 with Horvath, who punched away a sizzling shot.
Nicolas Fernandez’s free kick sailed through traffic in the 72nd minute. Horvath jumped into the mixer and was knocked down as the ball struck the post before being cleared.
The Red Bulls threatened in the 78th minute as Adri Mehmeti’s chip shot clipped the crossbar. Matt Freese handled Hall’s close-range shot in the 89th minute.
Horvath had five saves for the Red Bulls, while Freese was credited with three for NYCFC.
NYCFC veteran midfielder Maxi Moralez exited the match on a stretcher in the 35th minute with an apparent knee injury.

Cavaliers Facing Elimination Again in Game 7 Against Pistons
After winning three games in a row and their first road game of the playoffs, it looked like Cleveland was going to roll their way into the Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately for them, Detroit is a team that will never quit, and they answered every question on Friday night with a dominating 115-94 win, the largest victory for either team this series.
Before Friday’s no-show, prediction markets gave the Cavs nearly an 80% chance to advance; that number has fallen to 37% with a massive Game 7 on the horizon.
Obviously, every game 7 is a must-win, but it means far more for Cleveland. Since LeBron left in 2018, the media have not respected the Cavs. They’ve been painted as a soft team that cannot win in the postseason. Now, they expedited their contention window by trading for James Harden, a move that needs to result in at least an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
Cleveland is the most expensive roster in the sport, and if they spin out again in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, I’m not sure Dan Gilbert will be willing to keep eating the exorbitant tax bill he’s been taking on. If the Cavs lose, we might be watching the end of the Donovan Mitchell and company era in Cleveland.
Now, this isn’t to take anything away from Detroit, but this whole season has felt like it’s arrived one season early. I think if you ask even the most biased of Pistons fans, they would admit this team is not ready to contend for a championship.
Cade Cunningham looks like a future face of the NBA, but he desperately needs more help, something he finally received in Game 6. Seven Pistons not named Cunningham scored at least 8 points, and role players were a very solid 42% from behind the arc.
Paul Reed continued to be a spark plug off the bench for Detroit, but more importantly, Jalen Duren finally had a very solid performance. He dropped 15 points and 11 rebounds, which were the most points and second-most rebounds he’s had in a game this series.
He’s simply the biggest X-Factor going into Game 7. Duren is likely to be awarded with All-NBA honors this year, and he needs to perform like an All-NBA player to help Cunningham.
Game 7 opens with Detroit as 4.5-point favorites, and I think that’s a little bit high. This game comes down to one thing for me: will Cleveland’s guards show up?
Outside of too many turnovers, James Harden didn’t have a horrible Game 6, but Donovan Mitchell absolutely no-showed and was a net negative every time he stepped on the court. It has been a horrific postseason for Mitchell, but all could be forgotten with a legendary Game 7 performance. In the playoffs, nobody remembers how they got there; they only remember who the victor is.
Against my better judgment, I would lean Cleveland +4.5 in Game 7.

Giants place OF Heliot Ramos (quad) on 10-day IL

Mandatory Credit: Ed Szczepanski-Imagn Images The San Francisco Giants placed left fielder Heliot Ramos on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a right quadriceps strain.
Ramos was injured during Friday night’s 6-2 loss to the Athletics in West Sacramento, Calif. He underwent an MRI exam on Saturday.
“It will be at least a couple weeks and probably more than that,” said Giants manager Tony Vitello. “… We’ll see how things go for him. It’s obviously painful for (Ramos) and it stinks.”
Drew Gilbert will play left field and bat seventh in Saturday’s game against the Athletics.
San Francisco recalled outfielder Will Brennan from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned right-hander Tristan Beck to the same affiliate. The Giants also activated left-hander Erik Miller (back) from the IL.
Ramos, 26, was hurt trying to make a sliding catch of Jeff McNeil’s single in the fifth inning. He struck out in the top of the sixth and was removed after the half-inning.
Infielder Casey Schmitt replaced Ramos in left for his first professional appearance as an outfielder. Schmitt also never played the outfield in three college seasons (2018-20) at San Diego State. He was a second-round pick in 2020.
Ramos went 1-for-3 on Friday and boasts a .267 average with four homers and 20 RBIs in 44 games this season. Ramos hit more than 20 homers in each of the past two seasons and was a National League All-Star in 2024.
Brennan, 28, was 0-for-9 in five games for the Giants earlier this season and the 29-year-old Beck pitched three scoreless innings over two outings.
Miller, 28, had a 3.18 ERA in 12 relief appearances before his injury. He last pitched for the Giants on April 30.

Report: Aaron Rodgers returning to play with Steelers in 2026

According to ESPN, he will receive about $22 million to $23 million in base salary with incentives that would push the total to $25 million.
Rodgers is expected to be in attendance on Monday at Pittsburgh’s OTA session, according to the report.
Rodgers, 42, has been in Pittsburgh recently and there has been an assumption for most of the offseason that he would eventually choose to return to the Steelers.
The fact that Pittsburgh hired Mike McCarthy as coach was viewed as a significant factor. Rodgers was McCarthy’s quarterback when the latter coached the Green Bay Packers from 2006-18. Rodgers quarterbacked the Packers to the 2010 season Super Bowl title.
The four-time MVP will be entering his 21st NFL season. He’s a 10-time Pro Bowl selection.
Rodgers was Pittsburgh’s quarterback last season and completed 65.7% of his attempts for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Rodgers ranks fifth in NFL history with 66,274 passing yards and fourth with 527 touchdowns passes. He has thrown just 123 interceptions and his 1.4 interception rate is the best in NFL history.
Rodgers played 18 seasons with Packers and two with the New York Jets in addition to last season with the Steelers.
The other players in Pittsburgh’s quarterback room are journeyman Mason Rudolph, second-year pro Will Howard and 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar.
