Giants break out of skid in big way, crush Rockies
May 31, 2026; Denver, Colorado, USA; San Francisco Giants infielder Rafael Devers (16) is congratulated by designated hitter Bryce Eldridge (8) after scoring in the first inning against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-Imagn Images Willy Adames hit a grand slam in a seven-run fifth inning, Bryce Eldridge also homered among his four hits, and the San Francisco Giants routed the Colorado Rockies 19-6 in Denver on Sunday.
Jung Hoo Lee had a career-high five hits — two in the fifth inning — Jesus Rodriguez homered, Rafael Devers finished with three doubles and a single and Casey Schmitt had three hits for San Francisco, which snapped a five-game skid.
The Giants finished with a season-high in runs, hits (25) and extra-base hits (13). Colorado native Jonah Cox, called up from Double-A before the game, made his major league debut as a pinch runner in the eighth inning and doubled in the ninth for San Francisco.
Reliever Caleb Killian (2-3) got the win for the Giants with a scoreless sixth inning. Right-hander Joel Peguero left the game in the eighth after hobbling while trying to field Tyler Freeman’s infield single.
Freeman had three hits and Kyle Karros and Troy Johnston had two hits apiece for Colorado, which totaled 10.
San Francisco took a 2-1 advantage after the second and then chased starter Tanner Gordon (0-1) in the fourth. Eldridge led off with his second double and Daniel Susac was hit in the head by a Gordon curveball but remained in the game. Brennan Bernardino relieved Gordon and surrendered an RBI single to Schmitt.
Luis Arraez brought home another run with a sacrifice fly to close the book on Gordon, who allowed four runs on six hits in three-plus innings.
The Rockies made it 4-3 in the bottom of the inning on starting pitcher Robbie Ray’s two errors on Willi Castro’s broken-bat comebacker. Colorado’s Karros (single) and Chad Stevens (walk) scored on the play.
The Giants broke the game open in the fifth against righty Zach Agnos. Lee and Matt Chapman doubled. Two outs later, Drew Gilbert tripled, Schmitt singled and Devers doubled. Agnos intentionally walked Arraez before Adames slammed a full-count fastball into the seats in left for an 11-3 lead.
Colorado scored two in the bottom of the fifth, the Giants added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, three in the eighth and two in the ninth. The Rockies scored one run in the seventh.

Yankees explode for 13-run inning in victory over Athletics
May 31, 2026; West Sacramento, California, USA; New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) tracks the ball on a single against the Athletics during the third inning at Sutter Health Park. Mandatory Credit: D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images Ben Rice drove in four runs, and Trent Grisham and Max Schuemann each had two RBIs as the New York Yankees rode a 13-run third inning to a 13-8 win over the Athletics on Saturday in West Sacramento, Calif.
The Yankees sent 18 hitters to the plate and took a 13-3 lead in the third on 11 hits and four walks. The inning opened with 12 straight Yankees reaching base. Anthony Volpe’s broken-bat blooper got things started, and after he stole second, Schuemann and Austin Wells drew walks to load the bases.
Paul Goldschmidt’s infield single knocked in Volpe, and Rice singled over first base to score Schuemann and Wells. Aaron Judge’s RBI single into shallow center field scored Goldschmidt. Cody Bellinger singled to right field to load the bases again and end the afternoon for A’s starter Jacob Lopez.
Reliever Michael Kelly issued an RBI walk to Jose Caballero and Grisham singled in Judge and Bellinger to make it 7-3. Volpe’s second hit of the inning plated Caballero, and Schuemann laced a two-run double to left field.
After Wells walked, Goldschmidt struck out looking for the inning’s first out. Rice blasted a two-run triple to right field, and after Judge struck out, Bellinger’s single scored Rice as New York took an 10-run lead. A Caballero single sent the A’s back to the bullpen for Jack Perkins, their second reliever of the inning, who induced a Grisham pop fly to end the onslaught.
Rice, Bellinger and Volpe each had two hits to lead the Yankees to a series win. Brent Rooker doubled and homered, and Jonah Heim hit a three-run shot for the A’s.
Earlier, in the first inning, the A’s took a 2-0 lead when Grisham mishandled Heim’s two-out popup for an error, allowing Carlos Cortes and Tyler Soderstrom to score. One batter later, Lawrence Butler’s RBI single scored Heim.
Rooker’s solo shot and Heim’s three-run bomb cut the A’s deficit to 13-7 in the seventh. In the eighth, Nick Kurtz added an RBI double.
Lopez (4-3) gave up seven runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings. New York’s Will Warren (7-1) allowed three runs (all unearned) on six hits, walked three and fanned five.

May 31, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (18) delivers during the fourth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: William Liang-Imagn Images Rookies Ryan Ward and Alex Freeland each hit home runs in the fourth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away for a 9-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a season-high 10 strikeouts over 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the Dodgers rebounded from a loss on Saturday to improve to 14-3 since May 13. Max Muncy also hit a home run for Los Angeles.
Ward’s home run was the first of his career in his third major league game, which was also his home debut.
Bryson Stott hit a home run as the Phillies lost two of three at Los Angeles following a three-game sweep at San Diego. Rookie right-hander Andrew Painter (1-6) was tagged for four runs on seven hits in a season-low 3 1/3 innings.
Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto departed the game in the fourth inning, one inning after he was hit in the left wrist by a 97-mph fastball from Yamamoto.
Freeland, who was recalled last week, gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double. Los Angeles made it 2-0 in the third on an RBI single from Kyle Tucker that hit off the first-base bag and hopped into right field.
Ward’s home run, to the back of the Phillies’ bullpen in right field, came as the leadoff hitter in the fourth. The 28-year-old, who has 156 minor league home runs in seven seasons, made his long-awaited major league debut April 19 and was recalled again Friday.
Two batters after Ward went deep, Freeland also hit a home run to right field for a 4-0 lead, his third.
The Phillies had runners on second and third with one out against Yamamoto in fifth, but Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner struck out. The Dodgers made it 6-0 in their half of the fifth on a pinch-hit single from Alex Call, who was hitting for Ward.
Freddie Freeman had a pair of late sacrifice flies and Muncy hit a solo shot, his 14th homer this season, in the seventh.
Stott hit his home run to lead off the ninth.
