NFL Star Reveals He Has Deadly Disease And Fans Had A Terrible Reaction

This week, NFL legend and all-time great quarterback Brett Favre made a shocking announcement during a congressional hearing where he spoke about welfare reform. At the meeting, where he was testifying about his dealings with the welfare system (more on this in a second), Favre told onlookers and the committee that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in January of this year following consultations with a number of different doctors.
The revelation by Brett Favre that he was dealing with Parkinson’s Disease came on the heels of his experiencing minor symptoms about a year ago. He said his right arm (his throwing arm) was feeling “stuck” and there were even issues with simple tasks like putting on clothes.
What’s a bit surprising, at least at first, about the reactions to the Brett Favre announcement was how certain commentators and fans didn’t come in with sympathy. Far from it. Instead, there were many who had the completely opposite reaction to the Brett Favre news.
The negative reaction to Brett Favre’s Parkinson’s diagnosis stems from his alleged involvement in various welfare and state-allocated funds being pushed towards personal interests.
Brett Favre allegedly received a $1.1 million payment Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families fund for speeches he never actually gave
This comes from an alleged $1.1 million payment to Favre from Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families fund for speeches he never actually gave. Favre has apparently repaid some of the money but still owes more than $250,000.
Additionally, there are allegations Brett Favre pressured state officials to divert $5 million dollars in said TANF funds for a volleyball court and facility at the University of Southern Mississippi. That’s where he went to college and played football.
And finally, there were also allegations Brett Favre helped direct $1.7 million dollars in TANF funds (see a trend here?) to a concussion medication company of which he was an investor.
Brett Favre has been named in a civil lawsuit from the Mississippi Department of Human Services who are trying to claw back some of these “lost” funds. While Brett Favre has not been formally charged with crimes related to these TANF payments, the look isn’t a great one and is part of what’s sparked the backlash even to this Parkinson’s diagnosis.
As far as Parkinson’s Disease is concerned, Brett Favre said in his congressional hearing he and the doctors believe this possibly stems from concussions suffered during his time playing in both college and the NFL.
Brett Favre played 20 years in the NFL, primarily for the Green Bay Packers, but also for the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, after initially being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. His career came at a time before concussions had a major focus, and Favre speculates he suffered many during his playing days.
In all, it’s always crazy to see people victory-lapping a terrible diagnosis, especially for such a well-known figure. But Brett Favre’s recent dealings have put his public persona in an increasingly negative light. It remains to be seen what happens further with the outstanding lawsuits or the disease itself.

Best Mothers Day gifts: Show mom some love

Mother figures are the backbone of the world. Yours may be your biological mother, or maybe she’s your mother-in-law, your best friend’s mom, or simply someone whose motherly instinct has helped you through hard times.
Moms teach you the adulting necessities, give advice even if the problem is your fault, and above all, they put up with your shit and (almost) never complain.
The game plan here isn’t just to snag the last bouquet at CVS just so you’re not the kid who forgot Mother’s Day (but definitely also get flowers). And you don’t even need to spend a lot of money. (Peep our list of Mother’s Day gifts that cost less than $50. Want even more cheap gift ideas?
Skip the generic mugs and show your appreciation with a gift picked just for her: Whether it’s something to make a part of her life easier, something she’s mentioned wanting in passing, or simply something to make her feel like a damn queen, you can’t put a price on everything she’s done for you, but heartfelt gifts certainly help.
After all, they say “No matter how hard you try, you always end up like your mother.” But is that even a bad thing?
