Jacob Misiorowski fans 11 as Brewers shut out Yankees
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski (32) throws during the first inning of their game against the New York Yankees Friday, May 8, 2026 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jacob Misiorowski struck out 11 over six scoreless innings, pacing the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-0 victory over the visiting New York Yankees on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
The hard-throwing Misiorowski (3-2) allowed just two singles and walked two in a dominant 95-pitch outing. Each of his 10 pitches in the first inning topped 102 mph. In his previous start, the 24-year-old right-hander pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings before exiting with a hamstring cramp.
Milwaukee rookie Shane Drohan allowed one hit over the final three scoreless innings for his first major league save.
Brandon Lockridge had two hits and two RBIs for the Brewers, who had lost two of the past three, before he was taken off the field on a cart in the fourth inning with an apparent leg injury. The left fielder was hurt sliding into the wall in foul territory. The team did not announce a status update before the end of the game.
Jose Caballero produced two of the three hits for the Yankees, who had won six of their previous seven games
The Brewers scored four runs in the second inning, when their first five hitters reached against Max Fried (4-2).
Gary Sanchez singled, and Andrew Vaughn and Luis Rengifo followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Lockridge lined an RBI single to right, and Sal Frelick blooped an RBI single into shallow center to make it 2-0.
Joey Ortiz drove in another run on a fielder’s choice, and Jackson Chourio delivered an RBI single up the middle to put the Brewers up 4-0. Fried recovered to strike out the final two hitters of the frame.
Milwaukee made it 5-0 in the third on a double by Vaughn and Lockridge’s two-out single.
The Brewers added a run in the seventh off Kervin Castro on a double by Joey Ortiz and RBI single by William Contreras.
The Yankees threatened in the fifth when Spencer Jones, making his major league debut, drew a one-out walk and Jose Caballero singled, but Misiorowski struck out Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon to end the inning.
Jones finished 0-for-2.
Fried battled through six innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out five and walking three.

Connelly Early hurls a gem as Red Sox defeat Rays
May 8, 2026; Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Connelly Early (71) delivers a pitch during the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. Mandatory Credit: Paul Rutherford-Imagn Images A pair of solo home runs stood up as Connelly Early pitched a career-high seven shutout innings, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 2-0 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.
Wilyer Abreu’s two-out blast in the third was all that Boston needed, but Ceddanne Rafaela (2-for-4) added a homer of his own in the next inning for good measure.
Early (3-2) fanned eight while allowing just four hits and one walk on the way to his first scoreless start of the season. Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman followed the southpaw with scoreless innings, preserving Boston’s MLB-leading sixth shutout of the season.
Nick Fortes (2-for-3) had two of the four hits for Tampa Bay, which was blanked for the first time this season and had a seven-game win streak snapped.
After allowing just one base hit through the first two innings, Early escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam with a strikeout and a 5-4-3 double play to end the third without any damage done. Back-to-back hits by Nick Fortes and Taylor Walls had started the frame.
The Red Sox went without a hit for the first 3 2/3 innings against Jesse Scholtens (3-2) — a primary reliever who completed 4 2/3 in his second start of the season — before breaking up the shutout bid with one swing. With two outs in the third, Abreu crushed a solo job over the bullpens in right-center field.
Rafaela joined the action an inning later, giving Boston a 2-0 lead with a line-drive shot over the Green Monster in left.
Early was dominant following the Rays’ big threat, allowing only one base hit — a Fortes single with one out in the fifth — through the remainder of his outing. After Fortes’ second knock, the southpaw bounced back to strike out back-to-back batters and the side.
Though the Red Sox were unable to extend their lead and logged just two hits themselves after scoring in the fourth, Early punctuated the night with a looking strikeout of Fortes in the seventh.
With Chapman on to close, third baseman Caleb Durbin made a diving stop to help retire Junior Caminero in a 1-2-3 ninth with two punchouts. Chapman earned his eighth save.

The Liberty continued pouring it on by taking a trio of 27-point leads in the first 3:18 of the second. Johannes canned a 29-foot 3-pointer for a 52-26 lead with 3:52 remaining and the Liberty held a 66-37 lead at halftime.
