Cody Bellinger hit a pair of solo homers as part of a four-hit showing and drove in four runs, leading the New York Yankees to a 9-4 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.

Bellinger contributed an RBI double in Friday’s 7-2 win among two hits. On Saturday, he followed that up with solo homers in the second and fifth innings along with a run-scoring double in the third following an intentional walk to Aaron Judge.

Bellinger had his second multi-homer game this season and 21st of his career.

The outfielder added his fourth hit on an RBI single in the seventh. Bellinger finished with four hits for the ninth time in his career and second time with the Yankees.

Trent Grisham added a two-run homer and reached base three times, while Jose Caballero scored on a passed ball by Baltimore catcher Adley Rutschman in the third. Jazz Chisholm Jr. added an RBI single in the seventh following Bellinger’s fourth hit.

The Yankees totaled 11 hits and won for the 12th time in 14 games.

New York’s Ryan Weathers (2-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in five-plus innings. The left-hander struck out five and walked two.

Pete Alonso homered for the second straight game and third time in his past five games, but the Orioles lost for the 11th time in 17 games. Taylor Ward scored on Alonso’s double play grounder, and pinch hitter Samuel Basallo hit an RBI double in the sixth.

Baltimore’s Kyle Bradish (1-4) allowed five runs on six hits in four innings. The right-hander walked four and struck out four.

Bellinger put the Yankees ahead by lifting Bradish’s 2-1 slider into the right-center field seats to start the second. After Grisham’s double, Caballero scored on a passed ball during an at-bat to Aaron Judge.

Bellinger put New York up 3-0 with a double to center, and Grisham’s two-run drive to right-center on a full-count sinker extended the lead to 5-1. Bellinger pushed the lead to 6-1 by sending a 0-1 slider from Keegan Akin into the right field seats and singled during a three-run seventh.

Chase Briscoe picks up first win of season in return to Chicagoland

Chase Briscoe made up time on pit road and led a 1-2-3 finish for Joe Gibbs Racing, holding off teammate Christopher Bell on Sunday to win for the first time in 2026 at the eero 400 in the NASCAR Cup Series’ return to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.

Briscoe brought in his No. 19 Toyota one circuit before William Byron on Lap 52 then passed the No. 24 as both got up to speed.

However, the hard-charging Bell, racing with a fractured wrist, used his No. 20 to chop off a one-second deficit and chase down Briscoe but came up 0.276 seconds short.

JGR’s Denny Hamlin, who started from the pole, finished third and saw his three-race winning streak on oval tracks come to an end.

Byron and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five as Toyota won for the 12th time in 19 races this season.

Connor Zilisch’s poor rookie campaign took another hit on Lap 1 when Ryan Preece’s No. 60 received contact in a three-wide run. The Ford shot down the 1.52-mile track, which announced a sellout, and turned Zilisch’s No. 88 into the inside wall for the first caution.

Zane Smith’s No. 38 Ford and Austin Hill’s No. 33 Chevrolet brought out separate cautions after Kyle Larson outran Hamlin for the early lead in Stage 1, which featured 60 trips around the track as it hosted the NASCAR’s top series for the first time since 2019.

Byron moved his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet past Austin Cindric, who was on 10-lap older tires, to claim the segment’s top points. Larson finished second with Bubba Wallace, Cindric and Briscoe taking the top five.

However, after Wallace roared to the point on Lap 92, Larson spun all alone in Turn 4 and became stuck in the frontstretch’s muddy infield after multiple weekend downpours. The two-time series champ had to be towed out and circled the track with four flat tires.

Tyler Reddick, 2026’s wins leader with five, hit debris on the racing surface, suffered an oil cooler failure on his No. 45 Toyota at the race’s midpoint and went to the garage.

Byron swept the first two stages as his car had strong short-run speed up front. Briscoe, Hamlin, Ty Gibbs and Ryan Blaney followed behind.

Manny Machado hit a three-run home run and JP Sears went five scoreless innings as the visiting San Diego Padres ended a season-long eight game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

Fernando Tatis Jr. had an RBI single in a four-run seventh inning as the Padres avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. The losing streak was San Diego’s longest since a 10-game skid in 2013.

The Padres won after infield coach Ryan Goins and manager Craig Stammen were ejected three pitches into the game following a check swing by Tatis that was called a strike.

Dodgers right-hander Kyle Hurt was tagged for four runs in his lone inning of work after starter Emmet Sheehan (4-6) gave up one run over 4 1/3 innings.

The Los Angeles offense, which had two come-from-behind wins in the series, had RBI singles from Alex Freeland and Shohei Ohtani among just four hits. The loss was just the third in 13 games by the Dodgers, who lead the National League West by 14 games over the Padres.

Los Angeles catcher Eliezer Alfonzo made his major league debut amid reports Sunday that his sister and stepmother were found dead after they had been listed as missing following last month’s earthquake in Venezuela. Alfonzo played seven innings on defense and went 0-for-2 at the plate.

The Padres opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Jackson Merrill singled to right field against Sheehan to score Machado.

Sears (2-1) held the Dodgers without a hit through the first four innings and finally allowed a two-out single to Miguel Rojas in the fifth.

San Diego made it 2-0 in the seventh on an infield single by Tatis, and two batters later Machado hit his three-run home run to center against Hurt.

Freeland and Ohtani each delivered RBI singles in the seventh. Ohtani returned to the lineup after missing Saturday’s game with biceps soreness.

Mason Miller pitched the ninth for San Diego to collect his 22nd save after not recording one since June 22.

Jude Bellingham recorded a brace and Harry Kane scored his sixth goal of the World Cup and added an assist as England outlasted Mexico 3-2 in a round of 16 instant classic on Sunday night at Mexico City.

England played a man down for the last 48 minutes, including 12 in stoppage time, after Jarell Quansah picked up a straight red card, handing Mexico a rare loss at Estadio Azteca.

England will face Norway in the quarterfinals on July 11 at Miami Gardens, Fla. Norway defeated Brazil 2-1 earlier Sunday.

Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored goals as Mexico fell to 70-3-17 at the famed stadium since it opened in 1966.

The start of the match was delayed an hour due to fierce rainstorms in the 7,200-foot elevation but the weather was a nonfactor during the intense match.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made three saves, while Mexico counterpart Raul Rangel stopped two shots.

Mexico had a 21-6 edge in shots and put six on target to England’s five.

England looked in trouble when they went down to 10 players while holding a 2-1 lead.

Quansah made a sliding tackle at Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo and his high spikes collided with Gallardo’s left shin. The play was reviewed and Quansah was given a red card in the 54th minute.

Six minutes later, England padded their lead. The sequence started with a long ball bouncing into the Mexico box. England’s Anthony Gordon was in pursuit and Rangel came out and took Gordon down and a penalty kick was awarded.

Kane stood at the spot before sending a right-footed rocket into the left corner of the net to give England a 3-1 advantage. Kane is one goal off the lead in the Golden Boot competition.

A short time later, Kane was called for a high kick and Mexico were awarded a penalty kick. Jimenez took it in the 69th minute and slowly approached before kicking a left-footer into the left side of the net for his third goal of the tournament.

England were passive for most of the first half before Bellingham scored twice in 98 seconds.

Bukayo Saka set up the first one in the 36th minute with some nice maneuvering in the attacking area. He sent a cross to Bellingham, who met the ball with a stellar diving header that went into the left side of the net to give England the lead.

Then Mexico were sloppy in the midfield and England came up with a theft and moved downfield. Kane had the ball and sent it over to Bellingham, who knocked in a right-footer to give England a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute on his fourth goal of the World Cup.

Mexico answered in the 42nd minute off a free kick. Roberto Alvarado sent a left-footed boot toward the box and the ball caromed off the leg of England’s Ezri Konsa. It went directly to Quinones, who sent a right footed-shot into the upper portion of the net for his fourth goal.

Earlier, Mexico had a big chance in the 15th minute but Jimenez’s close-range header was stopped by the left hand of Pickford.
