Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images All-Star starter Breanna Stewart scored a season-high 36 points as the host New York Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx 99-86 on Friday night.
New York (13-8) got good support from Sabrina Ionescu (17 points, six assists), Jonquel Jones (14 points, a game-high 15 rebounds and five assists), rookie Pauline Astier (14 points, six assists) and Leonie Fiebich (13 points, four assists).
The Lynx, who still have the best record in the WNBA at 15-5, were led by Rookie of the Year front-runner Olivia Miles, who had 14 points — all but two before halftime — and five assists. Miles and teammate Natasha Howard were also named All-Star starters on Thursday.
However, Howard was held to seven points on 3-for-10 shooting.
The Lynx – who are tied with Las Vegas for the best road record in the league at 9-2 – also got 18 points from Kayla McBride and 16 points from Courtney Williams.
New York led 26-22 after a first quarter that featured 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting by Stewart. The Liberty missed their first four shots and then made 11 in a row, leading by as many as 12 points. The Lynx did well to stay close given the Liberty making 61.1% of their first-quarter field goals.

Stewart scored 18 first-half points, while Miles had 12 points and five assists. New York shot 64.7% from the floor. Minnesota shot 40.9% but stayed in the game by outscoring New York 13-5 on second-chance points behind eight offensive rebounds.
In the third quarter, Stewart scored 11 points as New York stretched its lead to 78-65. Miles was held to two points in the third.
New York added to its lead midway through the fourth, going up 85-68, and the Liberty cruised from there.

Kelsey Mitchell leads Fever to first regular-season win at Aces
Jul 5, 2026; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell (0) dribbles against Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young (0) in the second quarter of their game at T-Mobile Arena. Mandatory Credit: Candice Ward-Imagn Images Kelsey Mitchell poured in 27 points and the visiting Indiana Fever pulled away from the Las Vegas Aces to win 84-68 on Sunday.
Aliyah Boston’s 18 points and 10 rebounds were critical for the Fever (12-8), who hadn’t played in more than a week. Lexie Hull added 10 points. It marked Indiana’s first-ever regular-season victory in Las Vegas.
Mitchell, who was 7-for-18 from the field and made 10 of 12 free throws, scored 25-plus points for the third game in a row as Indiana launched a four-game road trip.
Mitchell, Boston and Sophie Cunningham connected on three 3-point shots apiece for the Fever.
Jackie Young led Las Vegas with 15 points, while Jewell Loyd posted 12 points and Chelsea Gray had 10 points. Gray shot 2-for-11 from the field.
The Aces (15-6), who fell out of a first-place tie atop the league standings, made 40% of their shots. That included 4-for-19 on 3-pointers (21.1%). Las Vegas failed to reach the 70-point mark for the second time this season.
Both teams were without injured All-Star starters, with the Fever minus Caitlin Clark (back) and the Aces missing league scoring leader A’ja Wilson (ankle).
The Fever stormed out to a 66-53 lead in the third quarter. Boston scored the first eight Indiana points of the quarter.
Hull hit her second shot with the shot clock winding down when she drained a jumper from the left side to extend the margin to 75-62 with 4:24 remaining. That basket ended the Fever’s scoring drought that was approaching five minutes.
The Aces managed only five points in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Fever, despite being outscored 11-5 on free throws in the first half, went to the break holding a 42-41 lead. Neither team led by more than six points in the opening half.
Mitchell and Loyd each had 12 points at halftime to pace their respective teams.

Chase Briscoe picks up first win of season in return to Chicagoland
Jul 5, 2026; Joliet, Illinois, USA; NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar (77), driver Chase Briscoe (19), driver Brad Keselowski (6) and driver Chase Elliott (9) race four wide during the eero 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images Chase Briscoe made up time on pit road and led a 1-2-3 finish for Joe Gibbs Racing, holding off teammate Christopher Bell on Sunday to win for the first time in 2026 at the eero 400 in the NASCAR Cup Series’ return to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.
Briscoe brought in his No. 19 Toyota one circuit before William Byron on Lap 52 then passed the No. 24 as both got up to speed.
However, the hard-charging Bell, racing with a fractured wrist, used his No. 20 to chop off a one-second deficit and chase down Briscoe but came up 0.276 seconds short.
JGR’s Denny Hamlin, who started from the pole, finished third and saw his three-race winning streak on oval tracks come to an end.
Byron and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five as Toyota won for the 12th time in 19 races this season.
Connor Zilisch’s poor rookie campaign took another hit on Lap 1 when Ryan Preece’s No. 60 received contact in a three-wide run. The Ford shot down the 1.52-mile track, which announced a sellout, and turned Zilisch’s No. 88 into the inside wall for the first caution.
Zane Smith’s No. 38 Ford and Austin Hill’s No. 33 Chevrolet brought out separate cautions after Kyle Larson outran Hamlin for the early lead in Stage 1, which featured 60 trips around the track as it hosted the NASCAR’s top series for the first time since 2019.
Byron moved his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet past Austin Cindric, who was on 10-lap older tires, to claim the segment’s top points. Larson finished second with Bubba Wallace, Cindric and Briscoe taking the top five.
However, after Wallace roared to the point on Lap 92, Larson spun all alone in Turn 4 and became stuck in the frontstretch’s muddy infield after multiple weekend downpours. The two-time series champ had to be towed out and circled the track with four flat tires.
Tyler Reddick, 2026’s wins leader with five, hit debris on the racing surface, suffered an oil cooler failure on his No. 45 Toyota at the race’s midpoint and went to the garage.
Byron swept the first two stages as his car had strong short-run speed up front. Briscoe, Hamlin, Ty Gibbs and Ryan Blaney followed behind.
