All the best Apple MacBook deals ahead of October Prime Day
Table of Contents
UPDATE: Oct. 7, 2024, 4:05 p.m. EDT This story has been updated with current pricing and availability.
The best early October Prime Day MacBook deals at a glance:
Amazon is home to good MacBooks deals year-round (more so than any other kind of laptop), but its selection sees especially deep discounts during certain sitewide savings events. Next up is Prime Big Deal Days, the retailer’s members-only “October Prime Day” sale on Oct. 8 and 9, which will likely bring dramatic price drops across Apple’s lineup ahead of a possible M4 refresh.
In the lead-up to the event, things are panning out as expected: Amazon has discounted most MacBooks across the M2 and M3 generations, and two of our favorite models are currently sitting at record-low prices. That would be the M2 MacBook Air and the M3 MacBook Pro; we think they’re the best budget MacBook and the best MacBook for video editing, respectively.
It’s difficult to see these variants getting any cheaper once Prime Big Deal Days formally begins, but cautious shoppers may want to hold their purchase until then in the off-chance Amazon decides to drop its prices even further. At any rate, we’ll be keeping an eye on them over the next few days while closely monitoring competing deals at other retailers. (For its part, Best Buy will be running a 48-Hour Flash Sale during Prime Big Deal Days.)
Read on for a closer look at the best early October Prime Day deals on MacBooks. Note: Deals marked with a 🔥 have dropped to an all-time low price.
Best MacBook Air deal
Why we like it
Read Mashable’s full review of the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air (M2).
The 13-inch MacBook Air from mid-2022 is a Mashable Choice Award winner that combines “[rock]-solid battery life” with “a keyboard that’s to die for, and enough horsepower to handle everyday tasks with ease,” wrote tech and games reporter Alex Perry. It’s our current favorite “budget” MacBook, and it’s now cheaper than ever before.
You can snag the base configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for $749, or $250 off its $999 MSRP. If it sells out on Amazon, check Best Buy: It was matching the deal at the time of writing.

Best MacBook Pro deal
Why we like it
Read Mashable’s full review of the 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro (M3).
The latest 14-inch MacBook Pro features an M3 chip that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for rendering lifelike lighting, plus a bright 120Hz mini-LED display, tons of ports (including an SDXC card slot), and a battery that lasted over 16 hours per charge in our testing. It’s another Mashable Choice Award winner.
All configurations of the 14-inch M3 Pro are now on sale at all-time lows on Amazon (including the base model, which is now just $1,299). However, we’re partial to the bumped-up version with 16GB of memory and 1TB of SSD storage: That extra RAM is necessary if you’re going to be using it for multitasking and/or creative work. Normally $1,999, it’s now just $1,699 — a 15% savings. Note that it’s technically $100 cheaper at Best Buy, but only for paid members of its My Best Buy program.

3 AdultFriendFinder red flags — how to avoid scams on AFF
Depending on who you ask, AdultFriendFinder is either the Wild West of hookup sites, an “anything goes” paradise for adult fun, or a total scam replete with bots, fake profiles, and inactive accounts.
After months of personal testing, I can confidently say which AFF you experience ultimately boils down to how you use the site. If you approach it naively, without a strategy, you’re probably going to have some frustrating experiences. On the other hand, if you exercise a modicum of caution and common sense, you’ll discover a huge, fun, and kink-friendly community.
Here are three red flags to look out for as you use AFF, to help you spot potential scammers and separate the authentic users from the fake profiles.

Unverified accounts
AdultFriendFinder already offers a fantastic first step in combatting fake profiles that they call ConfirmID. Once you’ve created an account, you can, at any time, upload a clear scan of a government-issued ID card and then, using a webcam, undergo a quick face verification scan to confirm that you are indeed the person identified in the government document.
This step strikes the perfect balance between not being onerous enough to annoy the average user but still requiring enough effort to deter scammers, who notoriously go after the low-hanging fruit.
Mashable Trend Report
Once you’ve completed the ConfirmID sequence, you’ll be rewarded with a verification badge on your profile, and we strongly recommend that you limit your one-on-one interactions on the site to other verified users.
Perfect profile photos
Alright, admittedly this one requires some personal judgment, as everyone should strive to upload good, high-quality photos of themselves to dating websites. But if every photo looks like it belongs in a magazine, or if the person in the photo looks a little too good to be true, you should exercise caution.
In the age of generative AI and filters, it’s trivially easy to create a fake photo or series of photos, so you should also be on the lookout for what isn’t in the photos. Are there recognizable local landmarks (clubs, restaurants, well-known parks, or street corners) in the photos, or are they all equally generic?
Over-eager chatters
Ever since chat bots became a thing, dating sites have become plagued with them, and as AI improves more and more, it’s not always easy to know, right away, if the “person” you’re talking to is really human. One dead giveaway, though, is how much they chat and how quickly they reply.
Real people go off on tangents, employ non sequiturs, and sometimes stumble with awkward questions or comments. Chat bots, on the other hand, are typically always chipper and extremely fast-talking, so much so that a paragraph-long answer can come back to you in seconds.
They also almost always have an agenda, too, whether that’s directing you to click on a link (“Follow my Instagram profile”) or getting you to divulge some potentially compromising bit of personal information about yourself.
