There's Another Nosferatu Remake With A Horror Legend Coming Out This Year

By Becca Lewis
| Published

From legendary horror writer/director Robert Eggers, a new Nosferatu remake has a decidedly haunting trailer out. The new Nosferatu promises a stylized look that includes a monochromatic but not entirely black-and-white color profile, a talented cast, and a haunting soundtrack. The remake promises to bring all the vampire chills and thrills to its audience.

The trailer for the Nosferatu remake reveals a dark world filled with vintage-style scenes and gothic horror vibes. Check it out for yourself.

Shot on 35mm film, it leans into the mythological origins of the Nosferatu story, blending modern technique with a classic, golden age cinematic eye. The combination of monochromatic composition and exaggerated, abstract lighting brings elements of the original Nosferatu to the remake.

One big difference between the original and the Nosferatu remake is that the new version will have sound, including dialogue and a musical soundtrack. The remake has a heavy, robust soundtrack, likely as a nod to the original film, but there is dialogue, which was not possible when the original was made in 1922.

While there will be audio in the remake, many design aspects of the film point to its German expressionist and silent film roots.

The original Nosferatu of 1922 was directed by German film legend F.W. Murnau, who was an early film giant, emigrating to the US in 1926 to work for the Fox Studio and directing classics like Sunrise.

The 1922 version of Nosferatu is an example of German expressionist film and is an attempt to convey the feelings of the artist rather than to portray a one-to-one copy of reality. Writer/director Robert Eggers certainly has a steep hill to climb to achieve success with his Nosferatu remake, but his impressive horror roots give him a decided edge.

Writer and director Robert Eggers made sensational modern horror classics like The Lighthouse, The Witch, and The Tell Tale Heart, so his choice to write and direct a Nosferatu remake seems like a no-brainer.

His experience with crafting horror stories that feel like fables or folklore and honing in on the inner fear of the human soul to generate relatable apprehension for an audience positions him as a likely director to retell a classic vampire story with an ancient origin.

Nosferatu Remake

With so much spooky potential, Eggers’ Nosferatu appears to be a haunting success.

The cast of the new Nosferatu remake includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bill Skarsgård, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, and Nicholas Hoult

A deep pool of talent was tapped for the Nosferatu remake. The cast of the new Nosferatu remake includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Kickass fame as Freidrich Harding, Bill Skarsgård best known for his portrayal of Pennywise in the It movies of 2017 and 2019 as Count Orlock, and Emma Corrin of Deadpool and Wolverine fame as Anna Harding. Also included in the star-studded cast are Willem Dafoe as Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz, Nicolas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, and Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhlem Seivers.

The planned release of the Nosferatu remake is for Christmas of 2024, bringing a spooky theatrical release for the holidays. The trailer doesn’t show us exactly what our favorite vampire, Count Orlock, looks like once he transforms, so we’ll have to use our imaginations until Christmas. The film doesn’t have a streaming release date yet.

Best Mothers Day gifts: Show mom some love

Mother figures are the backbone of the world. Yours may be your biological mother, or maybe she’s your mother-in-law, your best friend’s mom, or simply someone whose motherly instinct has helped you through hard times.

Moms teach you the adulting necessities, give advice even if the problem is your fault, and above all, they put up with your shit and (almost) never complain.

The game plan here isn’t just to snag the last bouquet at CVS just so you’re not the kid who forgot Mother’s Day (but definitely also get flowers). And you don’t even need to spend a lot of money. (Peep our list of Mother’s Day gifts that cost less than $50. Want even more cheap gift ideas?

Skip the generic mugs and show your appreciation with a gift picked just for her: Whether it’s something to make a part of her life easier, something she’s mentioned wanting in passing, or simply something to make her feel like a damn queen, you can’t put a price on everything she’s done for you, but heartfelt gifts certainly help.

After all, they say “No matter how hard you try, you always end up like your mother.” But is that even a bad thing?
