Syndication: The EnquirerMiami RedHawks head coach Travis Steele waives communicates to his team in the second half of the NCAA Basketball game at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Eian Elmer scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the first half and grabbed nine rebounds, while Peter Suder added 17 points and seven rebounds to keep No. 23 Miami (Ohio) unbeaten with a 90-74 road win over Marshall on Saturday afternoon in Huntington, West Virginia.

Antwone Wilfork added 15 points and seven rebounds for Miami (24-0), which led wire-to-wire. Miami and No. 1 Arizona remain the only two Division I unbeaten men’s basketball in the country.

Noah Otshudi had a game-high 23 points, while Wyatt Fricks added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Marshall (15-9).

While the game was scheduled as part of the Mid-American /Sun Belt Conference challenge, the two schools were longtime rivals in the MAC, with the RedHawks extending their lead in the all-time series 49-29.

Marshall was playing without one of its key players for a second straight game, as injured 7-foot-4 Matt Van Komen sat on the bench in street clothes. Van Komen ranks sixth in the country with 58 blocks this season.

Miami took advantage early, racing out to a 9-2 lead. Leading 22-16, Miami erupted for a 19-1 run, highlighted by a four-point play from Almar Atlason in a 13-0 spurt. Elmer was also big early for Miami, draining all four of his 3-point attempts for 12 first-half points.

Marshall missed nine of its first 10 from beyond the arc and opened the game ice-cold from the field. After making six of their first 11, the Herd missed 17 straight shots, including six 3-point attempts. Marshall finished the first half just 10-of-33 from the floor.

Trailing 41-17, Marshall did cut into Miami’s lead before the break, outscoring the RedHawks 14-8 to trim Miami’s lead to 49-31 at the half.

Miami scored the opening basket of the second half to restore the 20-point lead, and Miami led 56-36 before Marshall made a charge to cut the RedHawks lead down to 59-49. But Marshall point guard Jalen Speer picked up his fourth personal foul with 11:41 left in the second half and had to go to the bench, and Miami answered with six straight points.

Marshall cut the deficit to single digits twice in the final 10 minutes but could only get as close as 67-58 on an Otshudi layup with 7:46 remaining.

Malik Reneau scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the visiting Miami Hurricanes defeated the Boston College Eagles 74-68 in an ACC matchup on Saturday afternoon.

True freshman Shelton Henderson added 19 points and six rebounds for Miami (18-5, 7-3). In addition, Tre Donaldson recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high seven assists.

Donaldson had 13 of his points in the second half, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:31 left. Miami led the rest of the way.

Miami had lost its previous four games against the Eagles.

Boston College (9-14, 2-8), which has lost four straight games overall, was led by Donald Hand Jr., who scored 20 points, including 4-for-6 shooting on 3-pointers. Boden Kapke added a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

However, Boston College’s leading scorer, Fred Payne, was held to 11 points on 5-for-18 shooting.

Miami was without starting guard Tru Washington (personal reasons) and reserve Marcus Allen (cancer treatments). Allen, who turned 21 on Saturday, was at the game, supporting his teammates.

The Hurricanes led 34-33 at the break. Reneau led all first-half scorers with 13 points, and Henderson had 10. Donaldson had just one point, but he ran the show well with three passes that led directly to layups/dunks. He also faked out a Boston College defender badly on a baseline spin move.

Payne missed his first six shots, but he ended the half with six points. Kapke led Boston College with 11 points, making three buckets in the paint, two free throws and one 3-pointer.

For the first half, Miami was plus-nine on rebounds, but Boston College was plus-five on turnovers, and both teams scored 18 points in the paint.

In the second half, Miami made seven straight shots, taking a 50-40 lead with 11:57 left, forcing an Eagles timeout.

But Boston College came right back, cutting its deficit to 57-56 on a steal by Jayden Hastings and a fast-break layup by Payne, forcing a Miami timeout with 6:05 left.

After the timeout, Reneau missed his second dunk of the game, and Boston College took its first lead of the second half, 58-57, on a jumper by Hand.

But Donaldson’s 3-pointer put Miami up for good as the Hurricanes prevailed.

For the game, Miami was plus-11 on rebounds and won the battle for paint points, 44-30; and fast-break points, 11-7.

LIVIGNO, Italy — Japanese snowboarders Kira Kimura and Ryoma Kimata won the gold and silver medals in the men’s Big Air snowboarding event at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday, dethroning champion Su Yiming of China with their soaring jumps in the Italian Alps.

Su ended the cold night in the mountain town of Livigno with the bronze as he could not overcome the powerhouses from Japan.

Ollie Martin, a 17-year-old who was the lone American that qualified for the final, finished fourth, one spot away from winning the first U.S. medal of these Games.

Kimura fell on the landing of his second of three runs but impressed the judges with a difficult switch backside 1900 in his final bid to secure his first Olympic gold.

The 21-year-old smiled broadly and clapped his hands on the podium at the medal ceremony.

He scored a total of 179.50, ahead of 171.50 for Kimata, to top the podium at the Livigno Snow Park after posting 90.50 in his third and final run.

After Su’s daring technical spin on his first run, the 21-year-old Chinese competitor fell on his hands in the second round, which hurt his chances of retaining the title.

Competitors were ranked by a combined score of their two best jumps. Su’s total was 168.50.

The Big Air event features riders launching off a jump and performing an aerial trick involving flips, spins and twists. The medal contest was held at night under floodlights.
