No. 22 St. John's knocks off No. 3 UConn for 9th straight win
Feb 6, 2026; New York, New York, USA; St. John’s Red Storm forward Zuby Ejiofor (24) looks to drive past UConn Huskies forward Tarris Reed Jr. (5) in the first half at Madison Square Garden. Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Zuby Ejiofor totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists as No. 22 St. John’s extended its winning streak to nine games in an 81-72 victory over No. 3 UConn in front of an electric sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden Friday night in New York.
The win marked St. John’s first victory over a top-3 team at MSG since defeating No. 3 Duke on Jan. 30, 2011, and it’s the first time St. John’s has won three consecutive games against UConn since the 1999-2000 season.
Ejiofor posted his fifth double-double and shot 6 of 10 from the field and often exploited his matchup with UConn’s Tarris Reed Jr, helping the Red Storm (17-5, 11-1 Big East) move within a half-game of the first-place Huskies (22-2, 12-1).
Tied at 45 in the second half, the senior center scored seven points in a 15-4 surge and staked the Red Storm to a 60-49 lead with 10:24 remaining.
After that point, St John’s fended off UConn’s comeback attempt that saw the Huskies cut the lead to 66-65 on a layup by Silas Demary Jr. with 4:46 left and 69-67 on a hoop by Alex Karaban with 3:39 left.
Following Karaban’s basket, Dylan Darling hit a 3 over Solo Ball and Ejiofor went around Reed for another hoop to put St. John’s up 74-67 with 2:27 left. The Red Storm finished off their third straight win over UConn by hitting five free throws in the final 57 seconds.
Dillon Mitchell added 15 as the Red Storm outscored the Huskies 42-33 in the final 20 minutes. Bryce Hopkins contributed 14 as the Red Storm shot 50% and gave coach Rick Pitino his 903rd career win to tie Roy Williams for third most all-time.
Demary led the Huskies with 18 points and Karaban added 17 as the duo combined to shoot 14-for-21 from the floor. Reed contributed 12 and Braylon Mullins chipped in 11 as the Huskies lost despite shooting 54.7% and saw their 18-game winning streak come to an end.
The Huskies held a 16-10 lead on a layup by Reed with 13:50 left in the first half before St. John’s scored nine straight for a 19-16 edge on a dunk by Oziyah Sellers a little over two minutes later. The Red Storm pushed their lead to 23-17 on two free throws by Ejiofor with 10:10 left and UConn answered back, taking a 26-25 lead on a Mullins’ 3 with 7:26 remaining.
After St. John’s took a pair of four-point leads, the Huskies forged a 39-39 deadlock by halftime on a drive by Demary with 15 seconds left.

WR Jahmal Edrine no longer on Virginia roster after rape, abduction charges
Dec 27, 2025; Jacksonville, FL, USA; Virginia Cavaliers wide receiver Jahmal Edrine (7) warms up before the Gator Bowl against the Missouri Tigers at EverBank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Travis Register-Imagn Images Virginia wide receiver Jahmal Edrine is no longer enrolled at the university and has been removed from the program’s roster after being arrested and charged with rape and abduction, school officials confirmed in a statement Friday.
Edrine, 22, was taken into custody Thursday following a five-month investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department. Police said the case was opened on Aug. 25, one day after a report of a sexual assault. An Albemarle County grand jury returned indictments Monday on one count of rape and one count of abduction.
Police said Edrine is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
In a statement provided to Wahoos247, university associate vice president and chief communications officer Brian Coy said Edrine is no longer a student and that the school will cooperate with investigators.
“The university is aware of this matter,” Coy said in the statement. “While the university is prohibited by federal student privacy law from commenting on specific cases, we can confirm that this individual is not currently enrolled at the University. Albemarle County Police are continuing their investigation into this matter and the university will cooperate fully with that investigation.”
It remains unclear when Virginia officials first learned Edrine was under investigation. Police did not address that timeline publicly, and the department deferred questions to the university.
Edrine was Virginia’s second-leading receiver last season, catching 46 passes for 564 yards and a touchdown after transferring from Purdue. He began his college career at Florida Atlantic and was expected to be part of the Cavaliers’ receiving corps again this fall.

SEC lead hangs in balance on No. 17 Florida's trip to Texas A&M
Florida guard Urban Klavzar (7) drives for the basket during the second half of an NCAA Mens basketball game at Steven C. O’Connell Center Exactek arena in Gainesville, FL on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Florida beat Alabama 100-77. [Alan Youngblood/Gainesville Sun] Sole possession of first place in the Southeastern Conference is on the line when No. 17 Florida travels to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M Saturday night.
The Gators (16-6, 7-2 SEC) are riding a two-game winning streak, including a 100-77 rout of then-No. 23 Alabama on Sunday. It marked the first time Florida has reached the century mark in league play as it dominated inside with 72 points in the paint.
Alex Condon starred with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Thomas Haugh finished with 22 points, and Rueben Chinyelu had another balanced performance with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Coach Todd Golden couldn’t have had higher praise for Condon, saying he looked like a “first-team All-American.”
“That’s a hell of a ball game, man,” Golden said. “I’m not sure you can ask for anything more out of him. I thought he was aggressive. I thought he was decisive and played with great physicality.”
Golden went on to say that he thought Chinyelu is “arguably the best defender in America right now.”
Chinyelu, who leads the SEC in rebounding with 11.3 per game, is a big reason why the Gators are the best rebounding team in the country, averaging 46.0 per game. They also have the third-best defense in the SEC, limiting opponents to 71.4 points per game.
The Aggies (17-5, 7-2), who are just outside the Top 25, will put the Gators’ defense to test. They have the third-best offense in the country, averaging 92.0 points per game.
A&M is coming off a 100-97 loss at Alabama on Wednesday, a contest that could have easily gone the other way. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Aggies, but they are still in promising shape in Bucky McMillan’s first season.
“What if I said, ‘Hey, guys, we got the second round of the league coming up, nine games left, and we’re in first place.’ We’re in first place, and we got five of these games at home,” McMillan said. “We got the defending national champs coming in here, we can get sole possession and all the pressure is still on them.”
The Aggies are 12-1 at Reed Arena so far and have won their last three home games against the Gators. The last matchup in College Station was a 67-66 thriller on Feb. 3, 2024. Florida has won the last two games, though, including an 89-70 home victory last season.
For A&M to pull off the upset, it will need several standout performances. Rashaun Agee has been the most consistent scoring threat, leading the team with 14.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Agee scored 21 points in the loss at Alabama on Wednesday, his fourth 20-point performance of the season. Rylan Griffen is coming off a 17-point performance, including a 3-of-5 night from deep. As a team, the Aggies knocked down 13 3s.
They will need a similar showing to hang with the Gators.
“We’ve just got to have everybody coming out guns blazing, fighting with this team, and whatever happens, happens,” McMillan said. “But good things happen when we usually have that mentality.”
