Famed college admissions scandal mom Lori Loughlin is making a surprising comeback, starring in On Call, a police drama series. Her transformation from prison to police show star happens on the heels of her release after serving two months for trying to game the college admissions system to give her kid a leg up. The former Full House star has a tenacious attitude, referring to the Chumbawumba song Tubthumping, with the lyrics “I get knocked down, but I get up again…” as her anthem.

First Major Role After Prison

Since prison, Lori Loughlin has returned to the screen for a few roles in Great American Chanels’ (GAC) series When Hope Calls, and the TV holiday rom-coms, Fall into Winter and Blessings of Christmas, as well as an appearance as herself on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but On Call will be her first big Hollywood break since her release.

Her firing from the CBC series When Calls the Heart was a setback for the actress following the college admission scandal she was charged with, but she has been embraced by the former Hallmark Channel parent company CEO Bill Abbot after her release. Lori Loughlin is rebuilding her robust acting career by signing on the On Call, her first big role in a major episodic series since being convicted of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud.

Operation Varsity Blues

Lori Loughlin was convicted of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud for her role in the college admissions scandal that has become known as Operation Varsity Blues, which makes her role as a police lieutenant in On Call a step up for the former Full House star. She pled guilty and received a sentence of two months from the court, with the judge expressing his surprise that someone with such a charmed life would go to criminal lengths in pursuit of even more status. For her part, Laughlin took responsibility for her participation in the conspiracy and has stated that she regrets her involvement in the scandal.

Lori Loughlin will play Lieutenant Bishop in On Call, alongside Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars) as Traci Harmon and Brandon Larracuente (The Good Doctor) as Alex Diaz. The police drama follows partners who face the challenges of training an upcoming crop of recruits as well as the daily struggles of policing, although details of her character aren’t clear yet. The series is planned to be a high-octane, tense police drama, including Matthew Trent Hunnicut (Monsters) as Officer Beau, Rich Ting (Tulsa King) as Tyson Koyama, and Rich Ceraulo Ko (Tenet) as Rolland.

Lori Loughlin’s character, Lieutenant Bishop, will appear in On Call, the first ever streaming scripted series from Wolf Entertainment, which is well known for the Law and Order and Chicago megahit franchises. The series is co-created by Eliot Wolf of the podcasts Hunted and Dark Woods and Tim Walsh, producer on Hightown and Nightstalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer. Directors on the series include Eriq La Salle and Brenna Malloy, with both directors holding producer credits on the project as well, and will be released on January 9, 2025, on Prime Video.

Best Mothers Day gifts: Show mom some love

Mother figures are the backbone of the world. Yours may be your biological mother, or maybe she’s your mother-in-law, your best friend’s mom, or simply someone whose motherly instinct has helped you through hard times.

Moms teach you the adulting necessities, give advice even if the problem is your fault, and above all, they put up with your shit and (almost) never complain.

The game plan here isn’t just to snag the last bouquet at CVS just so you’re not the kid who forgot Mother’s Day (but definitely also get flowers). And you don’t even need to spend a lot of money. (Peep our list of Mother’s Day gifts that cost less than $50. Want even more cheap gift ideas?

Skip the generic mugs and show your appreciation with a gift picked just for her: Whether it’s something to make a part of her life easier, something she’s mentioned wanting in passing, or simply something to make her feel like a damn queen, you can’t put a price on everything she’s done for you, but heartfelt gifts certainly help.

After all, they say “No matter how hard you try, you always end up like your mother.” But is that even a bad thing?
