Edvinsson put Detroit on the scoreboard to make it 2-1 at 6:51 into the third period. Oettinger stopped Edvinsson’s shot from the left cirlcle, but he accidentally knocked it into the net while trying to cover the puck.

Raymond tied the game 2-2 with 3:26 left in regulation. He knocked his own rebound out of the air and in off the rush.

Johnston had given Dallas a 1-0 lead 8:57 into the game when he walked out from behind the net to Gibson’s right and stuffed a shot past the Detroit goaltender.

Bunting’s power-play goal made it 2-0, 2:19 into the second period. He shoveled in a loose puck from the slot for Bunting’s first goal for Dallas after being acquired from the Nashville Predators.

Tai Baribo scored on a penalty kick in the 5th minute of stoppage time to give visiting D.C. United a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

Matti Peltola also scored a goal for D.C. (2-2-0, 6 points), which rallied from a late 1-0 deficit to snap a two-game losing streak and inch ahead in the all-time series between the legacy franchises 26-25-21.

Hugo Cuypers scored on a penalty kick for Chicago (1-2-1, 4 points) in the 81st minute. It was the first goal in what had been to that point a lackluster match with few scoring opportunities for either team.

Sean Johnson made one save for D.C. United, who are vastly improved on defense, giving up just four goals after yielding an MLS-high of 66 goals last season.

Baribo’s goal, which was his third this season, came after Chicago’s Jonathan Dean was called for a handball in the penalty area.

Baribo fired his shot into the top left corner, beating keeper Chris Brady (one save), who had recorded two straight clean sheets entering the game.

Chicago lost despite owning possession for 63.2% of the match and out-shooting D.C., 16-11. However, the Fire put only two shots on frame.

Cuypers, who returned to the lineup after missing last week’s scoreless draw at the Columbus Crew, scored his team-high third goal this season. The penalty kick was awarded after D.C. defender Jackson Hopkins was called for a handball off a Fire corner kick.

With Johnson guessing with a dive to his right, Cuypers delivered his shot to the middle of the net. Cuypers is now 5 for 6 from the spot in his MLS career.

Just 3 minutes later, Peltola got the equalizer, scoring from the top of the box, firing a right-footed shot that froze Brady. It was the first goal in Peltola’s three seasons with D.C.

D.C. United had a goal taken off the board in the 43rd minute, when Hopkins was called for offsides. In his position in the box, Hopkins screened the vision of Brady on a header by Baribo off a corner kick by Joao Peglow.

Petar Musa's third goal pulls Dallas into a tie with San Diego

Petar Musa scored his third goal of the match five minutes into second-half stoppage time to give FC Dallas a dramatic 3-3 draw with visiting San Diego FC on Saturday.

Bernard Kamungo earned the assist on Musa’s goal after making a great run into the box. Kamungo carried the ball past three San Diego defenders, and Musa had the final touch for the equalizer and the hat trick.

Musa has five goals in four matches for FC Dallas, who are 1-1-2 this season.

San Diego FC remains undefeated (3-0-1), though the club will likely view Saturday’s match as a missed opportunity given how San Diego twice led by two goals.

Onni Valakari and Marcus Ingvartsen each scored on first-half penalty kicks, and Valakari added his second goal off a deflection in the 51st minute. Both Valakari and Ingvartsen have scored three goals this season.

In the 17th minute, a video review was required to see if Dallas defender Shaq Moore committed a handball foul in the box. The foul was confirmed, and Valakari buried the penalty kick in the 21st minute.

Ten minutes later, Ingvartsen converted San Diego’s next penalty kick. Dallas defender Herman Johansson ran over David Vazquez during a race for the ball in the box, resulting in a costly yellow card.

FC Dallas responded in the 41st minute, as pressure from Musa and Joaquin Valiente forced goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega into an ill-advised clearance attempt. The result was a turnover deep in San Diego’s end, and Musa’s first shot was blocked before the striker deposited his own rebound.

The two clubs exchanged goals early in the second half. In the 51st minute, Alex Mighten sent a nice cross to Valakari in front, and Valakari was awarded the goal after his shot banked off defender Nolan Norris and into the net.

Valakari’s brace was followed by Musa’s second goal three minutes later, this time on a Dallas penalty kick. Sisniega earned the foul when the goalkeeper came way out of his net and ran into Kamungo as the Toros defender was chasing the ball into the box.
