Kristaps Porzingis set for Warriors debut vs. Celts; Stephen Curry out
Jan 30, 2026; San Francisco, California, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) reacts after committing a turnover against the Detroit Pistons in the first quarter at the Chase Center. Mandatory Credit: Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Former Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis expects to make his debut with the Golden State Warriors when they host Boston on Thursday night.
However, one of Porzingis’ new teammates will be absent, as two-time MVP Stephen Curry will miss his sixth consecutive game because of a sore right knee.
Porzingis was acquired by the Warriors from the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline but hasn’t played since Jan. 7 due to issues with his left Achilles tendon. He said at the time of the trade that Thursday’s game was his target date for returning to the court.
“I look forward to really having a surprisingly good post All-Star break,” he said.
Porzingis, who has played in 17 games this season (12 starts), is considered “questionable” for Thursday per the Warriors’ injury list, but he said he is “ready to go.” He is averaging 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per contest.
Porzingis played for Boston last season, but was limited to 42 games with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. The Celtics traded him to the Hawks in July. He did not play against Boston while with Atlanta.
“He’s an easy fit,” Kerr said. “You don’t have to change a whole lot. The biggest difference I guess that he provides is post-ups. He’s a pretty good post-up player, especially against switches. You throw him the ball at the foul line, the elbows, even the low block, he can score in those spots. That was one of the things we did today, we worked on our spacing.”
Regarding Curry and his continued absence, Kerr said Wednesday, “Just wasn’t where he needed to be. It’s unfortunate. We’ll have an update (Thursday) after he goes through his time with the training staff.”
The Warriors, who lost four of their last six games before the All-Star break, occupy eighth place in the Western Conference standings. Boston will enter the Thursday game as the No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference, 5 1/2 games behind Detroit.
Speculation has ramped up regarding the possibility of injured forward Jayson Tatum suiting up for the Celtics in the second half of the season. Tatum, who is recovering from a torn Achilles, began practicing with some of his teammates this week. He had surgery in May.
“He looked like Jayson Tatum, I’ll say that much,” Ron Harper Jr. said. “We’re really excited for the potential of him coming back. We don’t know for sure if he’s going to come back. We’re just really excited to see him progress during his rehab.”
Tatum averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and a career-high 6.0 assists per game in 2024-25. The six-time All-Star has averaged 23.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists during his 585-game NBA career.
Thursday night’s matchup will be the first of two for these teams this season and should feature plenty of perimeter scoring. The Warriors lead the NBA in made 3-point field goals (897), while Boston is third (831).

Brendan McSorley saves point for St. Louis as NYFC falters
Apr 4, 2026; New York, New York, USA; St. Louis City SC midfielder Daniel Edelman (24) runs with the ball during the first half against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark Smith-Imagn Images Brendan McSorley’s 95th-minute header from the center of the box off a long ball from Lukas MacNaughton salvaged a 1-1 draw for St. Louis SC with host New York City FC on Saturday.
The goal was just the second game St. Louis has scored in this season and denied NYCFC’s bid for a third win in four home games.
Goalkeeper Roman Burki, who had six saves, denied Nicolas Fernandez just moments before McSorley’s equalizer. The Swiss netminder came up big all night.
Hannes Wolf scored his second goal of the season in the 50th-minute goal off an assist from Maxi Moralez to give NYCFC the lead.
Moralez tied New England’s Luca Langoni with his fifth assist as NYCFC moved to 2-1-1 at home, a fluid term as New York played its first three home contests at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx before moving to Citi Field in Flushing on Saturday.
St. Louis was coming off a 3-1 triumph over New England ahead of the international break but could not regain that offensive momentum until the end.
Keaton Parks wasted no time getting things going for NYCFC, sending a volley high in the third minute. Tayvon Gray followed three minutes later in search of his second goal, but his close-in attempt was turned away by Burki.
Marcel Hartel, who leads St. Louis with two goals, almost put his side ahead twice in the first half. His first attempt, in the 26th minute, was turned aside by NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese (2 saves).
In the 39th minute, Hartel tested Freese to the near post, but the veteran netminder was up to the task and denied the attempt.
Agustin Ojeda nearly doubled NYCFC’S advantage in the 63rd minute, taking a feed from Fernandez and challenging an oncoming Burki, who denied the Argentinian.
Fernandez, tied for third in MLS with five goals, was held scoreless for just the second time in six matches.
Hartel again had an opportunity in the 68th minute, but his attempt was not up to par, sailing very high over the goal.
St. Louis had multiple opportunities in the waning moments before McSorley’s goal.
Cedric Teuchart was wide left on an 82-minute attempt after a pinpoint pass from defender Jaziel Orozco, and Dante Polvara’s right-footed shot from the center of the box in the 93rd minute was too high.

Julian Hall, Red Bulls too much for FC Cincinnati in 4-2 win
Apr 4, 2026; Harrison, New Jersey, USA; Red Bull New York goalkeeper Ethan Horvath (34) reacts during the first half against FC Cincinnati at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images Julian Hall recorded his fifth goal of the season, Emil Forsberg and Mohammed Sofo also scored and the New York Red Bulls ended a three-match winless rut with a 4-2 triumph over FC Cincinnati on Saturday in Harrison, N.J.
New York (3-2-1, 10 points) entered the game with five goals on the season, four of them courtesy of 18-year-old phenom Hall. The Red Bulls nearly doubled that total, though one was a critical own goal off Cincinnati.
Ethan Horvath made four saves for the Red Bulls, and Cade Cowell had a fine performance, recording one assist and making the play that induced the own goal.
Pavel Bucha and Kyle Smith scored for Cincinnati (2-4-0, 6 points). Evan Louro, making his second straight start in net for the injured Roman Celentano, made three stops.
Forsberg put the Red Bulls ahead 2-1 in the 48th minute when he expertly nailed his close-range free kick over the Cincinnati wall to score off the crossbar.
In the 66th, Cowell took the ball along the right side of the box and changed directions twice to elude his defender. He sent a low cross toward Hall, and Smith’s outstretched leg attempted to deflect the shot but instead directed it over the line.
Smith made amends six minutes later. Evander’s corner kick was headed down by a New York defender, but Smith slid to the ground to poke it under Horvath and trimmed the margin to 3-2.
Cincinnati, which took six corner kicks, had numerous chances in the closing stages before Sofo buried a New York insurance goal from the center of the box three minutes into stoppage time.
Two minutes later, Cincinnati defender Alvas Powell was shown red when he chased down Omar Valencia in the open field and pushed him to the ground, denying a scoring opportunity. Valencia appeared hurt on the play.
The Red Bulls and Cincinnati traded opening blows in the 12th and 17th minutes. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty pushed ahead down the right sideline and passed to Cowell, who sped past his marker to the goal line and centered it for Hall for a grounder through Louro.
Cincinnati responded quickly on a counterattack. Samuel Gidi and Kevin Denkey shuttled the ball to Bucha, whose right-footed shot zipped past a jumbled New York defense and a frozen Horvath.

Wessam Abou Ali scored a pair of goals in the second half, Max Arfsten added a goal and assist, and the Columbus Crew defeated host Atlanta United 3-1 for their first win of the season on Saturday.
Columbus (1-3-2, 5 points) snapped a two-match losing streak while awarding head coach Henrik Rydstrom his first victory in MLS.
Atlanta United (1-4-1, 4 points) avoided being shut out for the fourth time in six outings, but dropped its second home match of the season.
Columbus broke a scoreless deadlock in the 48th minute. Arfsten fired in a cross from the right side to Abou Ali, whose header beat an outstretched Lucas Hoyos for a 1-0 lead for his fourth goal of the season.
Abou Ali scored his second goal of the night, and team-high fifth goal of the season, in the 53rd minute. Atlanta’s defense allowed the Crew striker plenty of time to unload a well-taken shot that sailed into the upper-right corner of the net to leave Hoyos no chance at a save.
Patrick Schulte ended the evening with three saves for Columbus, his only miscue coming on a misplayed ball that Alexey Miranchuk put home in the 60th minute.
Arfsten scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute. The United States international accepted a pass from the right side of the box from Andres Herrera and found the back of the net to make it 3-1.
For Atlanta, Hoyos stopped four of the seven shots he faced.
Since a season-high three-goal output against the Philadelphia Union on March 14, Atlanta has scored once in its past two matches. Meanwhile, Columbus’s three goals on the evening were a season high.
Atlanta will be without manager Tata Martino for its April 11 match at the Chicago Fire. He was shown a straight red card after entering the Columbus technical area in the early stages of second-half stoppage time.
