Darren Raddysh sets franchise record, as Lightning topple Bruins

Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Darren Raddysh scored a franchise-setting, tiebreaking goal late, as the Tampa Bay Lightning closed their seven-game homestand with a three-goal third period in a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
In a career season, Raddysh netted the game-winner, his 21st, with over five minutes remaining in regulation, breaking a tie with teammate Victor Hedman for the most goals by a Lightning defenseman in a single season.
Charle-Edouard D’Astous netted one and Nikita Kucherov hit an empty net to seal it for Tampa Bay (48-22-6, 102 points), which went 5-1-1 on the season-long stand. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves.
Casey Mittelstadt tallied for Boston (43-26-8, 94 points), who is 0-2-0 on its four-game road trip, thus far, and lost both matches in Florida. Goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped 20 shots.
Before the match began, the Lightning learned they had qualified for the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season with losses by the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators.
Boston nearly had an easy rebound goal with a loose puck in Vasilevskiy’s blue paint, but charging defenseman Charlie McAvoy was dragged down by Raddysh, preventing the first tally but creating a power play.
However, the home side was successfully able to work through two penalty-kills, and Vasilevskiy and Swayman, who fought one another on Feb. 1 in the Stadium Series game, kept it scoreless.
In the second period, Vasilevskiy stuffed Viktor Arvidsson’s early backhander on a breakaway, but Arvidsson later spun and slipped a pass to a trailing Mittelstadt, who sped all alone through the slot and drilled his 15th at 6:47.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay had just five shots and were outplayed in the frame.
D’Astous put his club on the board by recovering his own rebound and burying the tying goal at 2:11 into the third, giving him two goals and eight points over the past seven outings.
The Atlantic Division opponents continued the tight-checking theme throughout the matchup, which could potentially be a first-round one in the postseason, until Raddysh sent a sharp-angle shot from the bottom of the right circle that bounced in off the inside of Swayman’s right arm at 14:29.
Kucherov potted No. 42 with Swayman out of the net at 18:27.

Zavier Gozo, Real Salt Lake keep up hot start over Kansas City

Diego Luna and Sergi Solans also scored for Salt Lake (4-1-1, 13 points), which extended its unbeaten streak to five games. Noel Caliskan tallied two assists for Salt Lake, which improved to 3-0 at home. Salt Lake had 22 shot attempts to Kansas City’s five.
Dejan Joveljic scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season for Kansas City (1-4-1, four points), which remains in last place in the Western Conference standings. SKC goalkeeper John Pulskamp made four saves but allowed three goals for the club, which owns the Western Conference’s worst goal differential (minus-8).
After going ahead 1-0 in the opening half, Salt Lake doubled its lead at the 55-minute mark, when Gozo assisted Solans on a right-footed goal in the box. Kansas City answered just four minutes later though, as Joveljic’s fourth goal of the season cut the deficit in half. Justin Reynolds assisted on the shot from the center of the box.
After Kansas City threatened to tie the score on Manu Garcia’s attempt, Salt Lake pushed its cushion back to two on Gozo’s goal in the 82nd minute. Caliskan found Gozo, who fired in a laser from the right of the box.
Salt Lake struck first just four minutes into the match, as Caliskan found Luna, who dribbled to the top of the box and fired in a left-footed shot past the outstretched Pulskamp.
Salt Lake continued to live in Kansas City’s territory, threatening to double its lead with nine shot attempts across the game’s first 25 minutes.
In total, Real Salt Lake tallied 12 first-half shot attempts to Kansas City’s two. Pulskamp made three saves in the first 45-plus minutes.

Mamadou Fofana scores first goal, as Revolution beat CF Montreal

Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-Imagn Images Luca Langoni had a pair of goal contributions, keeper Matt Turner made five saves for the clean sheet, and the New England Revolution picked up a 3-0 victory over visiting CF Montreal on Saturday.
Langoni scored in the first half and set up Mamadou Fofana’s first MLS goal as New England (2-3-0, 6 points) remains undefeated at home.
Peyton Miller had the other goal for the Revolution, which improved to 10-6-2 all-time in Foxborough against Montreal.
Montreal (1-5-0, 3 points) has dropped three straight with the loss at New England. Keeper Thomas Gillier made two saves.
Leading 1-0, Fofana doubled the Revolution’s lead in the 77th minute, redirecting a through ball from Langoni past Gillier.
Then, in second half stoppage time, Miller chipped a strike up and over Gillier.
Montreal had a couple of glorious chances for the equalizer early in the second half.
Dawid Bugaj hit the crossbar with his strike from outside the area in the 58th minute, and Hennadii Synchuk forced Turner to make a save with a header off the rebound to keep Montreal off the board.
Langoni opened the scoring in the sixth minute, putting in the rebound off Dor Turgeman’s strike for his first goal of the season. Gillier made the initial save off Turgeman’s strike but was unable to corral the loose ball.
Montreal’s first good chance came six minutes later as Efrain Morales put his header from the center of the area over the woodwork.
Turgeman nearly gave the Revolution a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute but put his strike from the center box off the post.
Then, in the 33rd minute, the header from Montreal’s Brandan Craig was corralled by Turner.
Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic was sent off with a red card in the 34th minute for coming out of the technical area to dispute the yellow card handed to Will Sands.
Saturday was the first of two meetings between Montreal and New England — the two sides will reconvene north of the border on Aug. 1.

Andy Pages remains hot in Dodgers’ win over Nationals

Will Smith also had three hits and Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Tucker and Alex Call each had two of the Dodgers’ 16 hits. Pages leads the majors in hits while batting .500 (15-for-30).
Los Angeles star shortstop Mookie Betts exited in the middle of the first inning of the game due to right lower back pain and was replaced by Miguel Rojas.
Tyler Glasnow (1-0) threw 101 pitches over six innings, giving up two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.
CJ Abrams hit a two-run homer and Luis Garcia Jr. went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Washington, which lost its fourth straight and has been outscored 23-11 in the first two games of the weekend series.
The Dodgers put two runs on the board in the first inning. With two on and one out, Freeman delivered a two-run double against Jake Irvin (1-1).
Irvin ran into trouble again in the second inning, allowing three runs on three hits. Los Angeles loaded the bases with one out before Alex Freeland scored on Rojas’ sacrifice fly. Freeman followed with a two-run double to right field.
The Dodgers extended their lead to 6-0 in the third when Pages singled, stole second and scored on Call’s two-out single.
Washington pushed a run across with two outs in the third on Garcia’s RBI triple into the right-field corner.
Irvin was replaced by Brad Lord after giving up six runs on eight hits over four innings. He walked two and struck out four.
Will Smith and Max Muncy greeted Lord with back-to-back singles to begin the fifth inning, and Pages drove them home with a three-run homer. The 387-foot shot was Pages’ second in as many games and third of the season.
After Los Angeles tacked on another run in the seventh on Tucker’s two-out single, Abrams hit a two-run homer off Ben Casparius in the eighth. Washington added a run in the ninth on Jose Tena’s pinch-hit RBI single.
