Adam Sykora helps Rangers knock off Panthers

Mandatory Credit: Dennis Schneidler-Imagn Images Rookie Adam Sykora scored for the second straight game, Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves and the host New York Rangers recorded a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers (30-35-9, 69 points) won their second straight following a season-high six-game skid, and did so after struggling to generate many chances in the opening 40 minutes.
Sykora broke the deadlock by getting through the slot and slightly past Florida’s Noah Gregor. As defenseman Adam Fox lifted a shot from the middle of the right circle, Sykora lifted his stick up just enough to deflect the puck into the net from in front of goalie Sergei Bobrovksy.
Playing in his third NHL career game since debuting Wednesday in Toronto, Sykora netted his first career game-winning goal. He scored New York’s third goal in its 6-1 rout of the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Will Cuylle.
Conor Sheary scored on a shorthanded breakaway with 8:46 left in the third. Fox capped the scoring with a shorthanded empty-net tally with 3:54 left in the third.
Shesterkin nearly recorded his second shutout this season and stopped a four-game losing streak.
He highlighted the game with consecutive pad stops on Matthew Tkachuk with about 12 1/2 minutes left and used his glove to snatch an attempt from Vinnie Hinostroza during a Florida power play midway through the first.
Mackie Samoskevich scored in the final minutes as The Panthers (35-35-3, 73 points) fell to 2-6-0 in their past eight games.
Bobrovsky made 18 saves.
Mika Zibanejad nearly scored for New York during a power play with 95 seconds left in the second period but saw his shot from the right circle stop on the goal line. After the shot got by Bobrovsky, Gustav Forsling swept the puck away from the goal line.
The Panthers nearly took the lead 3:22 into the third when Tkachuk finished off a 2-on-1 with Carter Verhaeghe. The Rangers challenged for offsides and the goal was disallowed.
After Sykora’s goal, J.T. Miller stole the puck from Tkachuk at the blue line in the offensive zone and found Sheary. Sheary skated into the zone ahead of Florida defenseman Mike Benning and sent a shot from between the circles by Bobrovsky.

Duke G Caleb Foster expected to play vs. UConn

Mandatory Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn Images Duke point guard Caleb Foster is expected to play again in Sunday’s Elite Eight game of the NCAA Tournament against UConn after he returned from a foot fracture on Friday.
Foster came off the bench and recorded 11 points and two assists in an 80-75 Round of 16 game against St. John’s. That contest was three weeks after his foot injury that occurred in the regular-season finale against North Carolina on March 7.
Foster underwent a surgical procedure on the injury to expedite recovery.
After missing the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, Foster also missed the first two NCAA Tournament games of the East Regional for the No. 1-seed Blue Devils (35-2).
Foster, who started 30 of his 32 games, is averaging 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He is shooting 39 of 98 (39.8%) from 3-point range.

Teen wolf: Kimi Antonelli captures win at Japanese Grand Prix
Nov 21, 2025; Las Vegas, NV, USA; Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli (12) is introduced before the Las Vegas Grand Prix at Las Vegas Strip Circuit. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli overcame a slow start to record his second straight win on Sunday at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, Japan.
Antonelli dropped to sixth place before steadily working his way into contention and benefiting from a safety car that was deployed due to a crash for Haas’ Ollie Bearman. That safety car allowed the 19-year-old Italian to pit and re-emerge in first place.
Antonelli, who recorded his maiden win two weeks ago in China, became the youngest-ever person to lead the drivers’ standings after finishing the race in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 3.403 seconds.
“It’s been a big step,” said Antonelli, whose 72 points in the driver’s standings are nine more than teammate George Russell.
“Experience does a lot — obviously last year I’ve gone through a lot and it taught me massively more than what I anticipated, and for sure it’s helping so far this year. Of course there’s still a lot of work to do, but I definitely feel much more in control of the situation.”
Antonelli finished 13.722 seconds ahead of second place Oscar Piastri of McLaren and 15.270 seconds in front of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Russell finished in fourth place, 15.754 seconds behind Antonelli.
Russell trailed then-leader Piastri before the safety car issue, giving the latter the chance to make a pit stop and pushing Mercedes’ hand to make the former use the pit as well. This move effectively handed Antontelli the victory on Lap 22.
“I think obviously we were very lucky with (the) safety car, but on the medium (tire), we were really strong once I got some free air, and then on the hard (tire) the pace was just incredible,” Antonelli said. “I don’t know what would have happened, how the outcome would have been, without the safety car, but yeah, it definitely made my life a lot easier.”

The Vikings announced the passing of Browner on Sunday, one day after the team announced former middle linebacker Jeff Siemon had died. The team did not announce the cause of death of either former player.
Selected by Minnesota with the 19th overall pick of the 1983 NFL Draft out of Southern California, Browner spent nine of his 10 NFL seasons with the Vikings.
Browner had 37 interceptions with 17 forced fumbles and 17 fumble recoveries in 145 career games (117 starts) for the Vikings (1983-91) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1992). He was a first-team All-Pro performer four times and was part of the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team.
In 2010, Browner was named one of the 50 greatest Vikings players of all time and was inducted into the team’s ring of honor in 2013.
“We’ve lost a great friend and one of the best Vikings teammates,” former Vikings tight end Steve Jordan said. “God blessed Joey with phenomenal talent and a big heart to love people and be a beacon of positivity. Truly, he will be missed.”
