Ben Rice (3-run HR) backs Will Warren as Yankees beat O's
May 1, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice (22) hits a three run home run during the second inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Ben Rice continued his torrid start by hitting a three-run homer in the second inning Friday night and the host New York Yankees recorded a 7-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
The Yankees won for the 11th time in their past 13 games in their return from a 7-2 road trip against the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
Jose Caballero also homered and Cody Bellinger hit an RBI double as the Yankees rebounded from getting blanked for the second time this season. Aaron Judge added an RBI single in the eighth, reached base four times and scored on Bellinger’s double and Amed Rosario’s single in the seventh.
New York’s Will Warren (4-0) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out nine, walked one and won his third consecutive start.
Pete Alonso hit a tying homer in his first at-bat in New York since joining the Orioles on a five-year, $155 million contract after he was not offered a contract by the New York Mets in the offseason.
Baltimore’s Cade Povich (1-1) was tagged for five runs on seven hits in four innings. The left-hander struck out four and walked two.
In the first of seven meetings with the Yankees over the next two weeks, the Orioles were held to three hits and lost for the 10th time in 15 games. Earlier in the day, Baltimore put closer Ryan Helsley on the injured list with elbow inflammation.
Alonso forged a 1-1 tie by hitting a 1-1 sinker into the second deck in right field but the Yankees answered with a four-run second.
Caballero homered down the left field line by hitting Povich’s first-pitch fastball. Following a two-out double by Trent Grisham and a walk by Paul Goldschmidt, Rice hammered a 1-0 slider into the right field seats.
It was Rice’s 11th homer, one behind Judge for the team lead. It also was the first baseman’s seventh in the past 14 games and fifth off a left-handed pitcher this season.
Warren retired 12 straight until Alonso walked with one out in the seventh. After Samuel Bassallo singled and took second on Grisham’s error in center field, Fernando Cruz came in and allowed a run-scoring groundout to Dylan Beavers before finishing the inning.
Camilo Doval and Jake Bird pitched an inning apiece to close out the win.

Cameron Young in driver's seat halfway through Cadillac Championship
May 1, 2026; Miami, Florida, USA; Cameron Young watches his approach shot to the 18th hole during the second round of the Cadillac Championship golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Romance-Imagn Images Cameron Young built a five-shot advantage at the Cadillac Championship by posting a 5-under-par 67 on Friday at Trump National Doral outside Miami.
Young rocketed up to 13-under 131 while Alex Smalley (second-round 71) found the water on No. 18 for a bogey that dropped him into a tie at 8 under with Canada’s Nick Taylor (70) and Jordan Spieth (71).
After capturing the biggest title of his career six weeks ago at The Players Championship, Young finds himself halfway to a Florida double at the PGA Tour’s newest $20 million, no-cut signature event. The PGA Tour returned to Trump National Doral and the famed “Blue Monster” for the first time since 2016.
Spieth remains in contention after a ho-hum round. He was 1 over through 15 holes before salvaging the round with birdies at Nos. 16 and 18. Spieth seeks his first win since the 2022 RBC Heritage.
Gary Woodland (69) sits alone in fifth at 7 under.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (67) moved into a tie for sixth at 6 under alongside South Korea’s Si Woo Kim (68), Canada’s Taylor Pendrith (67), Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan (68), Brian Harman (70) and Englishman Alex Fitzpatrick, whose 66 ranked among the top three rounds of the day.
Fitzpatrick, the younger sibling of World No. 3 Matt Fitzpatrick, became a full PGA Tour member when he and his brother won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event on Sunday.

Atlanta United, CF Montreal enjoying rare positive streaks
Apr 25, 2026; Montreal, Province of Quebec, CAN; CF Montreal defender Luca Petrasso (13) plays the ball against New York City FC forward Seymour Reid (99) during the second half at Saputo Stadium. Mandatory Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn Images Atlanta United strive to build on a promising run of form when they face visiting CF Montreal on Saturday night.
Atlanta (2-7-1, 7 points) enters the match just one step above last place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. But it is on a two-game winning streak across all competitions, which includes Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Charlotte FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.
The past two games have provided a much-needed respite for a club that struggled significantly to open the season.
“We want soccer that fans find exciting, that wins games and (makes) opponents (not) want to come and play us,” Atlanta midfielder Will Reilly said. “I don’t think we’re anywhere near how we want to be playing, but we’re in the right direction now.”
CF Montreal (3-6-0, 9 points) have a little wind in their sails after winning their first two matches under interim head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. After a 4-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on April 17, it topped New York City FC 1-0 on April 25 behind Prince Owusu’s team-high sixth goal of the season.
“We have a lot of belief in the squad we have right now, not only our starting 11, but the depth we have,” Montreal defender Jalen Neal said. “We’re all on the same page with our tactics. So, yeah, we’re looking like a team that can fire on a lot of cylinders right now.”
Atlanta United are looking to end a four-match home winless streak (0-3-1). Montreal is 1-5-0 on the road and has dropped its last three away from Stade Saputo.
Alexey Miranchuk, who leads Atlanta with six goals across all competitions, has found the net in back-to-back matches. Owusu has two goals and two assists in his last two matches.
Miguel Almiron (knee) is questionable for Saturday, per Atlanta head coach Tata Martino.

Revolution put perfect home record on line vs. Charlotte FC
Apr 18, 2026; Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA; New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil (10) passes the ball against Columbus Crew midfielder André Gomes (20)in the second half at Gillette Stadium. Mandatory Credit: David Butler II-Imagn Images The New England Revolution will aim to climb up the Eastern Conference standings in a pivotal home match against contenders Charlotte FC on Saturday evening in Foxborough, Mass.
New England (5-3-1, 16 points) has burst out of the gate this season, claiming fourth in its conference thanks to a five-game unbeaten streak. The Revolution have one of the most dynamic offenses in the league, powered by midfielder Carles Gil (two goals, three assists) and Peyton Miller (three goals).
New England holds a perfect league record at home (4-0-0). Keeping that momentum against a dangerous conference rival will be crucial for midfielder Brooklyn Raines and the Revs.
“We are on a home winning streak, so I think it’s important that we remain humble, but we still want to go and win every game possible at home,” Raines told the media before Saturday’s game. “It’s just about the small things that we do, and having the right mentality of respecting our opponent, but, at the same time, wanting to dominate.”
The Revs will miss midfielders Matt Polster and attacker Leonardo Campana with injuries.
Charlotte FC (4-4-2, 14 points) are mired in a three-game losing streak across all competitions, the latest one a 2-0 U.S. Open Cup loss to Atlanta United. Charlotte’s leaky defense has cost it points; the club hasn’t won a clean sheet in its last six league games.
“You don’t enjoy the wins as long as you should,” coach Dean Smith said, speaking on Charlotte’s latest skid. “You feel the losses longer. But, you win a game, and you think about the next game and how to win that next game. I never get too high and never get too low.”
Key to Charlotte FC’s success on Saturday night will be the playmaking of Pep Biel.
Biel has scored five goals and added four assists in just 10 league games, including a three-game goal contribution streak. They’ll need his presence in the final third to leapfrog the Revs in the Eastern Conference standings for fourth place.
