Nick Martinelli's 34 points propel Northwestern past Penn State

Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images Nick Martinelli tied his career high with 34 points as Northwestern ran away from Penn State in the second half as the Wildcats took down the Nittany Lions 94-73 on Thursday night in Evanston, Ill.
Martinelli, the fourth-leading scorer in the country, led Northwestern (10-11, 2-8 Big Ten) once again on 13 of 19 shooting overall and 4 of 7 from behind the arc. Tre Singleton chipped in 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with two blocks.
Angelo Ciaravino dropped 20 points off the bench and Jake West dished out 13 assists.
Penn State (9-12, 0-10) remains winless in conference play. Kayden Mingo led the way with 15 points and Ivan Juric dropped 14 while Josh Reed and Freddie Dilione V each had 11.
Northwestern set a season high with 12 made treys and only missed 10 (54.5%).
The Wildcats started to impose their dominance in the second half as part of a 11-3 run to increase the lead to double digits for the first time. Martinelli continued his onslaught with another 3 and a pull-up jumper to bring Northwestern’s lead to 60-47 with 14:37 to play.
Penn State quickly answered with a swift 8-0 run after a dunk from Juric to cut the lead back to 60-55 with 12:01 left.
But once again the Wildcats anchored down to extend their lead, this time with a 14-2 run. Martinelli scored 10 of the points during the run and Northwestern blew the game open to 81-63 with 4:56 left.
It was a back-and-forth first half that featured eight lead changes, and the teams were deadlocked seven times.
Singleton made a nifty fast break layup to give the Wildcats a 37-30 lead with 5:02 to play.
Juric responded with a personal seven-point run, which he capped with an and-one layup, to pull Penn State closer at 41-40 with 2:21 left in the half.
Martinelli closed his 15-point first half with a strong layup as Northwestern went into the break up 45-40.
Both teams shot lights out in the first half. Northwestern was 19 of 33 (57.6%) from the field in the first half while Penn State was 13 of 28 from the field (46.4%). The Wildcats also were hot to start from 3-point range, shooting 7-for-14 (50%).
The Wildcats had 30 assists on 38 made baskets for the game.

Women's Top 25 roundup: No. 1 UConn rolls past Marquette

Fudd knocked down five 3-pointers, while Strong had three steals and three blocks to lead the Huskies (27-0, 16-0 Big East). KK Arnold added 10 points, six rebounds and a career-best nine assists.
Lee Volker scored 15 points and Skylar Forbes chipped in 14 to pace the Golden Eagles (16-10, 10-7). Marquette jumped out to briefly lead by five, but the Huskies outscored the Golden Eagles 36-19 for the remainder of the first half and held their double-digit advantage through the final buzzer.
Strong was held to one rebound, the lowest the sophomore has grabbed in a single game in her career.
Oklahoma State 75, No. 16 Texas Tech 65
Jadyn Wooten scored 16 points off the bench to guide the Cowgirls to an upset victory over the Red Raiders at home in Stillwater, Okla.
Wooten also had seven assists and was one of five players to score in double figures for Oklahoma State (20-7, 9-5 Big 12). Amari Whiting collected 13 points and 11 rebounds, Achol Akot also scored 13 points and Stailee Heard and Haleigh Timmer each had 12 apiece.
Bailey Maupin scored 19 points for Texas Tech (23-4, 10-4) and Snudda Collins added 18.
After trailing by a point at the end of the first quarter, the Cowgirls outscored the Red Raiders 22-9 in the second frame and led for the rest of the game. Oklahoma State — which led by 17 at one point — won the rebounding battle by 10 and shot 8 of 16 from 3-point land.

Report: Suns agree to deal with F Haywood Highsmith

Highsmith was an integral rotation player for the Miami Heat for four seasons (2021-25). During that span, he started 80 games. Overall, he averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds across 20.3 minutes per game, while shooting 37.5% from 3-point range with the Heat.
In August 2025, he tore his meniscus while working out. Soon after, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
He did not play a game for the Nets. They waived him at the trade deadline.

Juke Harris' 25 points spark Wake Forest over Stanford

Mekhi Mason came off the bench for 10 points for Wake Forest (13-12, 4-8 Atlantic Coast Conference), which won at home for the first time since Jan. 3.
Harris shot 6 of 15 from the field and 12 of 13 at the free-throw line, eclipsing the 20-point mark for the fourth consecutive game.
Ebuka Okorie scored 26 points for Stanford (16-10, 5-8), which was in position for its second road win in four days until the final minute. The Cardinal won at Boston College on Wednesday night.
Benny Gealer’s 11 points and Aidan Cammann’s 10 points and 11 rebounds helped Stanford, which was outscored 28-9 on free throws.
Wake Forest ended the game on a 17-5 run. Harris, who also led Wake Forest in rebounding with seven, scored the team’s final seven points.
The Demon Deacons overcame 4-of-17 shooting on 3-pointers by making 28 of 32 foul shots.
Wake Forest closed within 60-59 on two Omaha Biliew free throws with 2:30 left. The Demon Deacons were even at 61-all on Harris’ lay-in.
On the next possession, Harris drove into the lane for an off-balance shot, giving the Demon Deacons the lead at the 54-second mark.
Stanford’s Jeremy Dent-Smith missed an open jumper from inside the arc before Harris went 1 of 2 at the free-throw line. Okorie then forced a potential tying 3-pointer, with Harris rebounding and responding with two foul shots.
Stanford scored the final seven points of the first half for a 39-30 lead at the break.
Okorie and Gealer both finished with three 3-pointers. Stanford starters Donavin Young and Ryan Agarwal were both scoreless in 24 combined minutes.
