My Paris Packing List

What do you pack for trips? In early May, I’m heading to Paris for a mix of work and pleasure, and I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Paris in the spring — past trips were in the winter — and I can’t wait to see flowers blooming! Here’s what I’m packing in my carry-on, and I’d love to hear your list…
1. When we were abroad a few years ago, I spotted women wearing very oversized shirts, and I fell in love with the effortlessly chic look. I have this white one to mix and match with the rest of my suitcase.
2. T-shirts shirts fold up into the teeniest squares, so I bring a mini stack of white ones, plus a striped long-sleeve, to rotate through the week. Le Bon Shoppe tees fit SO well.
3. Along with well-made basics, I also love bringing a delicate, pretty piece to wear when the mood strikes. This floral top floats on your skin, it feels like a kiss. (There are a bunch on Poshmark and eBay, too.)
4. Do you have anything you’ve worn countless times? I just realized that, for the past 9-10 years, I’ve brought this thin navy sweater on every single trip! It’s light enough to wear year-round, and versatile enough to wear on a plane, to a nice dinner, wherever you want. Glad to report that my cost-per-wear at this point is like $1.
5. Two pairs of jeans: one blue, one black. This black style is especially great — fits so, so well and has enough stretch to almost feel like sweatpants.
6. Barn jackets are all over NYC, and this white one with a corduroy collar feels so fresh for spring. The fit’s a little big, so maybe size down if you try it!
7. I’ve lived in a silky blue shirt this winter (evidence A, B), so when I found out they make a dress version, I was THRILLED. Spring uniform, unlocked.
8. For drinks and dinners — both at home and on trips — I’m looking forward to slipping on this lovely dress. Just add freckled shoulders:)
9. My trusty Away rolling carry-on, of course.
10. And pajamas for padding around the rental apartment and making buttery toast in the morning.
11. Finally, I’m bringing white sneakers for walking all over the city. This particular pair is cushioned and comfy enough to avoid blisters and achy feet.
12. Plus, pink ballet flats. This pair is splurgy, but these two are also nice: square and round. Sidenote: My friend Alison wears actual ballet slippers around the house, and they’re so cute!
What do you always bring on trips? I’d love to hear.

Best Mothers Day gifts: Show mom some love

Mother figures are the backbone of the world. Yours may be your biological mother, or maybe she’s your mother-in-law, your best friend’s mom, or simply someone whose motherly instinct has helped you through hard times.
Moms teach you the adulting necessities, give advice even if the problem is your fault, and above all, they put up with your shit and (almost) never complain.
The game plan here isn’t just to snag the last bouquet at CVS just so you’re not the kid who forgot Mother’s Day (but definitely also get flowers). And you don’t even need to spend a lot of money. (Peep our list of Mother’s Day gifts that cost less than $50. Want even more cheap gift ideas?
Skip the generic mugs and show your appreciation with a gift picked just for her: Whether it’s something to make a part of her life easier, something she’s mentioned wanting in passing, or simply something to make her feel like a damn queen, you can’t put a price on everything she’s done for you, but heartfelt gifts certainly help.
After all, they say “No matter how hard you try, you always end up like your mother.” But is that even a bad thing?
