10 Readers Share Their Winter Outfits

Once the temperature drops, I get tempted to live in sweats from December to March. So, for inspiration, I asked Cup of Jo readers on Instagram to show us the winter outfits that make them feel good…
Says Mauresa (above), who lives in Central Virginia, “Layers! You can pair any collared shirt with a sweater and top it off with a blazer for a polished look.”

“My go-to top is this cardigan, which is so versatile that I have it in a few different colors. What’s even better is that my friends have the same one. We always get a kick out of dressing alike.” — Sarah, London (middle)

“I switch between two looks: all black everything or a fun yellow scarf.” — Destinee, Washington, D.C.
“I’ve decided the key to getting through my first winter with a baby is to get outside and to wear happy clothes. Here I am wearing a floral puffer from Nuuly (started renting clothes for maternity wear and haven’t stopped!), fleece-lined leggings from Prana Vida (recommend by a COJ commenter), a J.Crew beanie, and Sorel boots. A tip I learned from living in Minnesota for six years: buy your snow boots one size too big so you can wear extra thick socks; Darn Tough are my favorite.” — Olivia, Rockville, Maryland

“Atlanta winters aren’t too extreme, so I can usually get away with wearing a couple layers. I gravitate towards neutral basics, like this grey B Sides sweatshirt, a navy peacoat, and white pants from Pistola, which have just the right amount of thickness. For a bit of sparkle, I add pearls. This outfit makes me feel confident.” — Mariam, Atlanta
“My favorite winter outfit is actually one garment, which makes everything look great: a 1960s houndstooth swing coat.” — Alice, Melbourne, Australia

“When I lived in the Bay Area, I would layer coats because it would get so cold. Now I’m in L.A., which is warmer, but I still love pulling on this plaid number. The multiple colors means it matches with so many outfits!” — Camille, Los Angeles
“My outfit as a stay-at-home-mom of two beautiful feral babies is a cropped sweater, high rise jeans, and a pair of tennis shoes. Add a grocery-store-purchased puffy vest and lip tint, et voila — I look presentable enough for library storytime.” — Katie, New Albany, Indiana
“I’m an equine veterinarian that specializes in internal medicine — basically, I take care of sick horses that require advanced diagnostics or hospitalization. In the first photo, I’m ready to present at a continuing education event in what (I hope) is an equestrian-chic outfit! In the second photo, I’m bundled in insulated coveralls from Tractor Supply.” — Krista, Leesburg, Virginia

“I took my first transatlantic trip to London this fall, and I was freaking out about packing because I didn’t have any cold-weather clothes! I ended up wearing this Mango coat and a pink scarf the entire trip. Both pieces elevated anything I layered underneath and kept me warm and comfortable.” — Angela, San Jose, California
What’s your repeat winter outfit? We’d love to hear…

Though an incremental upgrade from the previous QuietComfort model, these have some new features you’ll want to try out. But mostly, these comfortable headphones are all about feeling great on your ears and sounding fantastic. They offer noise cancellation and spatialized audio so it sounds as though you’re right where the music is. The new Cinema Mode can help to spatialize and balance background and sound and sound effects when watching movies to help put you right into the film as well.
Beyond that they can be used to take calls with their built-in microphones. They’ll last a long time while you’re on the phone too, with 30 hours of play time when listening to songs, podcasts, or taking meetings.

I live in an apartment, so I don’t exactly have a “whole home” to back up. But if there’s one thing I hate, it’s losing power. There goes the AC, the internet, the food in the fridge — it’s a total nightmare. If you actually own a house and have been putting off buying a backup power system because it’s pricey, I have some good news.
The DJI Power 1000 Mini portable power station just launched — U.S. availability is pending
