Ryan Reynolds Writes Loving Tribute To Deadpool Halloween Costumes

Deadpool and Wolverine costumes

When it comes to celebrities and Halloween, most breathless headlines focus on who dressed as what (for example, the cosmic coincidence that both Janelle Monae and Heidi Klum wore elaborate E.T. costumes this year). However, one insanely popular celeb made waves not because of what he wore but what he said about others’ attire. Ryan Reynolds took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise the different Deadpool & Wolverine costumes and re-enactments he saw on Halloween, describing the experience as “a dream come true–but a dream you didn’t know you were dreaming of.”

Ryan Reynolds was very effusive in his praise for the different Deadpool costumes he saw that night and seemed touched to have created something that had such resonance with so many different people. He owned up to the fact that “I’m not aloof or cool about stuff like this” and wore his heart on his sleeve about how everyone’s obvious adoration for his films made him feel. The main thrust of his message was gratitude: “no part of me takes it for granted or feels entitled to it,” he wrote.

To read Ryan Reynolds’ account of Halloween night, the killer Deadpool costumes he saw were just the start of what made the evening so special. “You’ll never know what that’s like if you’re me,” he said, describing this as the realization of a childhood fantasy. “I’m five years old, staring out the window at some impossible future.” While he didn’t explicitly elaborate, this seems to be a reference to the star’s lifelong love of the Merc With a Mouth and the fact that the world now seems to share his love for this quirky Marvel character.

Ryan Reynolds did elaborate, however, on how the sheer quality of the Deadpool costumes he saw is a big part of what made such an impression on him that evening, “People made mini-movies and wore some of the best suits I’ve ever seen.” As cosplayers, we can somewhat understand his passion…it’s always rewarding to see someone’s elaborate costume, but how much cooler must it be if that killer costume is an homage to your own hard work?

Continuing, Ryan Reynolds described both the kinds of Deadpool & Wolverine costumes he saw that night and how the people who wore them managed to take things to the next level by “quoting lines and performing stunts.” Part of what made the film so memorable (aside from the gloriously vulgar humor, that is) was the sheer amount of Deadpool Variants we got to see, and it sounds like that variety spilled out of the silver screen and into Reynolds’ neighborhood. He wrote that he saw everything from “Little KidPools to GeezerPools.”

If we were to make any bets, Ryan Reynold’ probably enjoyed seeing Kidpool even more than other Deadpool & Wolverine characters. That’s because the character was portrayed in the hit film by his young daughter, Inez Reynolds. Bringing her as well as his wife Blake Lively into the film (she played Ladypool) helped make this first official MCU outing into a family affair; now, things have come full circle, and it sounds like the family affair is now trick-or-treating in the family’s own neighborhood.

Even if you (gasp!) don’t like either Ryan Reynolds or Deadpool, it’s difficult not to smile when reading his reaction to seeing everyone’s elaborate costumes. The star seems understandably proud of the popular Marvel film he helped create, but he is also profoundly grateful to everyone who helped make it such a blockbuster hit. Deadpool himself may be full of tricks, but for the man behind the mask, Halloween was full of nothing but treats.

Best Mothers Day gifts: Show mom some love

Mother figures are the backbone of the world. Yours may be your biological mother, or maybe she’s your mother-in-law, your best friend’s mom, or simply someone whose motherly instinct has helped you through hard times.

Moms teach you the adulting necessities, give advice even if the problem is your fault, and above all, they put up with your shit and (almost) never complain.

The game plan here isn’t just to snag the last bouquet at CVS just so you’re not the kid who forgot Mother’s Day (but definitely also get flowers). And you don’t even need to spend a lot of money. (Peep our list of Mother’s Day gifts that cost less than $50. Want even more cheap gift ideas?

Skip the generic mugs and show your appreciation with a gift picked just for her: Whether it’s something to make a part of her life easier, something she’s mentioned wanting in passing, or simply something to make her feel like a damn queen, you can’t put a price on everything she’s done for you, but heartfelt gifts certainly help.

After all, they say “No matter how hard you try, you always end up like your mother.” But is that even a bad thing?
