Nikola Jokic gets hot in third, lifts Nuggets past winless Jazz

Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Nikola Jokic scored 18 of his 27 points in the third quarter, and the host Denver Nuggets beat the Utah Jazz 129-103 on Saturday night for their first home win this season.
Jokic added 16 rebounds and nine assists to finish just shy of a triple-double for the second straight night. He was a rebound shy of the mark at Minnesota on Friday night.
The Jazz remain the only winless team in the NBA.
Michael Porter Jr. scored 20 points, Julian Strawther had a season-high 19 points, Christian Braun scored 17, and Aaron Gordon had 12 points for the Nuggets.
Both teams were playing without key players. Utah was missing Lauri Markkanen (back) and Jordan Clarkson (heel) and started rookies Cody Williams and Kyle Filipowski.
Denver guard Jamal Murray is in concussion protocol after taking a blow to his head in the Nuggets’ loss Friday, and Russell Westbrook got his first start of the season in place of Murray.
The Jazz had six players score in double figures, led by Walker Kessler’s 18 points. Johnny Juzang had 17 points, Keyonte George scored 16 points, John Collins contributed 15 points, and Collin Sexton and Brice Sensabaugh each finished with 10 points each.
The Nuggets, who led most of the way, went ahead by 17 on Strawther’s 3-pointer with 1:04 left in the first quarter. Utah cut the deficit to 11 heading into the second and then used a 16-3 run to tie the score at 42 with 7:45 left in the half.
Denver reeled off 14 straight points and settled for a 65-56 halftime lead.
The Nuggets started to pull away in the third. Braun scored eight points in the quarter and Jokic took over offensively. He hit a hook shot, a 14-foot jumper and a trio of 3-pointers to give them a 24-point lead heading into the fourth.
Jokic was 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the period to give Denver a 99-75 lead with a quarter left.

Alex Fitzpatrick officially accepts PGA Tour membership
Apr 26, 2026; Avondale, Louisiana, USA; Alex Fitzpatrick walks on the green on hole 18 during the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Stephen Lew-Imagn Images Alex Fitzpatrick officially accepted PGA Tour membership following his emotional victory alongside his brother, Matt, in last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
His decision hardly is a surprise, given he said as much following the win, which their parents were on hand to witness.
“I am, indeed, yeah, yeah. I signed as quick as I could. I’m still shaking, and yeah, it was crazy,” the 27-year-old Englishman said during a media interaction at TPC Louisiana on Sunday.
The win was the first on the PGA Tour in his 11th career start for Fitzpatrick, who is now exempt through the 2028 season and is eligible to compete in this week’s Cadillac Championship, the fifth of eight Signature Events this season. The DP World Tour player also qualified for the remaining three — the Truist Championship, the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship — as well as the 2026 PGA Championship and the 2027 The Players Championship.
Fitzpatrick turned professional in 2022 after his collegiate career at Wake Forest.

Steelers place rare contract tender on Aaron Rodgers
Jan 12, 2026; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) throws during the first half of an AFC Wild Card Round game against the Houston Texans at Acrisure Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images If Aaron Rodgers plays another season, the Steelers want to make sure it’s with Pittsburgh.
The franchise placed the rare right-of-first-refusal tender on unrestricted free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, ESPN reported on Tuesday morning.
The move means Rodgers can accept a 10-percent raise from last year’s salary ($13.65 million), pushing the four-time NFL MVP to approximately $15 million in base pay. The Steelers guarantee the raise and in return are granted the right to match any offer sheet Rodgers can sign with another team as a free agent.
The Steelers can gain exclusive negotiating rights with Rodgers if he does not sign by July 22 or the first day of NFL training camp.
If Rodgers signs with a new team before that date, he would be a potential compensatory free agent lost by the Steelers and a potential CFA gained by the new team, provided all other requirements are met under the Compensatory Draft System’s rules.
Pittsburgh hired a familiar face in Mike McCarthy as head coach following Mike Tomlin’s resignation in January. Rodgers played under McCarthy during his time with the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers, 42, posted his 15th season with at least 3,000 yards and 20 touchdown passes with Pittsburgh in 2025.
He ranks fourth in NFL history in passing touchdowns (527) and fifth in passing yards (66,274). His career passer rating of 102.2 ranks No. 1 all-time as does his 1.4% interception percentage.
The 10-time Pro Bowl selection won Super Bowl XLV with Green Bay after the 2010 season. He owns a 163-93-1 record as a starter in the regular season with the Packers (2005-22), New York Jets (2023-24) and Steelers.

NBA Best Bets: Expert Picks for Tuesday’s Playoff Action
The No. 2 seeds in the Eastern and Western conferences can sew up their first-round series on Tuesday while an East contender aims to create distance.
That’s the backdrop for Day 11 of the NBA playoffs. Now here are some Best Bets.
Odds are via FanDuel.
PHILADELPHIA 76ers at BOSTON CELTICS, 7 p.m.
Boston boasts a pair of 32-point routs in a series that it can clinch with a home victory — one with Philadelphia big man Joel Embiid in the lineup, and one without.
While Embiid contributed 26 points in 34 minutes Sunday in his return from an early-April appendectomy, it hardly seemed to matter as the Celtics rolled to a 128-96 win in Game 4.
“The mindset didn’t change for us,” Boston guard Payton Pritchard said. “And honestly, as far as scouting goes, we just changed maybe a small adjustment right before the game, but we didn’t talk about it at all.”
What the Celtics did was excel from long range. Pritchard contributed six of the team’s franchise record 24 3-pointers while Jayson Tatum swished five.
Expect Boston to wrap things up in Embiid’s season finale. The embattled Sixers star makes more offensive waves but not enough to keep the versatile Celtics from advancing.
Celtics -11.5 and Joel Embiid 20+ points as part of two-leg parlay (+144)

ATLANTA HAWKS at NEW YORK KNICKS, 8 p.m.
Karl-Anthony Towns registered his first career playoff triple-double in Saturday’s Game 4 to spark the Knicks. His 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds helped New York even the series at two games each with a 114-98 road victory.
Towns’ continued success has been stabilizing for a team that has slumped in spurts but has looked for the past five quarters like the preseason juggernaut it was forecast to be.
While coach Mike Brown sounded almost aloof about moving Towns to the high post against the Hawks more frequently on Sunday, here’s thinking the Knicks build on that strategy to regain the series lead.
Karl-Anthony Towns 35+ points, rebounds, assists (-160)

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS at SAN ANTONIO SPURS, 9:30 p.m.
A clean injury report? The Spurs certainly will take it, even though they also realize a few key contributors still have bumps and bruises.
Notwithstanding his cryptic remarks about how his return from a concussion was handled, Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama is among the San Antonio players standing tall.
Taken with 28 points from De’Aaron Fox, Wemby’s 27 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks added up as the Spurs gained control of the series on Sunday. San Antonio overcame a 19-point deficit in the first half to roll by 21.
“There’s nobody who cares about their stat line,” Wembanyama said. “So it’s our greatest strength.”
